Who, what, when, where are the Ultragods? ultragods is an iloveraving.com desgination that started off as a joke but grew into something a bit more cooler. and seems to grow bigger with every retelling of the story.
it came about because hoppa, one of the OG glowstickers, had an inside joke that he was "god". you'd go, oh my god! and he'd be like "yes?" it was a really funny kind of thing. he had a presence and it was like an ongoing joke at the time. in any case, around this period of time, yosho (david) founder of iloveraving.com started to use ultras in glowsticking. this was unheard of because well, to be frank, a lot of us had never een seen an ultra, and you probably remember the first time you seen one being cracked because they are friggin bright. actually, i shouldn't say "started" as if he was the first person ever because we don't know that, but he seriously definately did make an impression because of his innovative skills and talents. iloveraving.com was taking off full steam and doing very well (with me joining, along with thousands of other likeminded individuals) and in any case, we started to have these things called "ultra circles", as a way to promote ILR and to promote the ideals of ILR and to attract membership, etc. this grew from when yosho, manny, hoppa, tom and a bunch of others at cyberfest spontaneusly decided to just crack a friggin load of ultras. around this same time i was begining to be more actively involved in ILR and at the same time getting to know everyone from ILR and being better at glowsticking. anyhow, from this display, yosho had a great idea of sponaneous cracking ultras at a certain time. i don't remember the first ever ultra circle, but obviously it was great because more came after. it was just around this time that ILR fans began to call the glowstickers who'd rep for ILR people inside of these ultra circles, gods, partly because hoppa demanded anyone call him god anyway and he was a pretty big figure in a lot of these things (and it was funny too), but when you are having tremendous loads of fun and in the midst of an ultracircle-- and anyone who attended the GSC ultra circle can attest to this-- the feeling becomes simply great and you become prone to verbal poetry, and someone, (who knows who?) just spontaneously started to use the word ultragod and the name just kind of stuck. the original original ultragods are hoppa, yosho, and manny, but they said me and paul were considered UG's (remember, it was not a defined thing, but definately a term of endearment ,etc) after our participation in numerous circles (as well as our travels to different places across the country). why "ultragod"? who knows? it sounds pretty spiffy and is easy to say and it flows well plus its better saying, "wow these guys are like friggn gods at glowsticking or something haha". anyway, the term stuck, and when GS.C started, the term spread enough so that people kept asking about it and we'd keep on having to explain it, which kept on spreading the term around and since the term is so catchy it just keeps being on asked again and again and people keep using it. to me, the term reminds me of great times, and great memories and great friends and times. it makes me smile whenever i hear it. so ultragods are (fairly proficient) glowstickers who glowsticked for ILR ultra circles back in the days at the start of an ultra circle at the behest of yosho or whoever was helping to start the ultra circle. to my memory people i'd consider ug's are: yosho, manny, hoppa, me, paul, jeff, felix, and gio. this does not mean all the other mentioned weren't great glowstickers, they simply came after ILR ultra circles or only participated at different times and came way later. in any case, the term just generally siginifies more an affiliation with ILR. happy times, happy times. ~Cynicdave
