Planning a Party Trip Long Distance: Ride and Hosting Etiquette

So you finally made the plan of going to a party far far away! Here are some great tips I think everyone should read.

Here are some tips from a long time raver. most people i party with and give rides to all know this, but i thought some younger people might need to know.

Rides and Gas Etiquette

* If you are hitching a ride for someone, if it's an hour or so (70 miles) drive, pitch in a few bucks. If it's a full on road trip fill up the tank once. Remember, gas is 2.50 in california, and most cars average 20 miles per gallon. I usually give the driver 5 bucks which should cover a 45 minute round-trip drive.
* Even if you are getting picked up, it's a good idea to print directions to the party as a second copy.
* At the party, parking can be expensive. It's a good idea to help pay for that. Something like buying your tired driver a bottle of water.
* AFTER the party, blast some music, talk about the party, but always have one additional person AWAKE when you guys are driving home.
* If you plan to bring drugs, ALWAYS ask the rider first. You can send him to jail because of your selfishness. Many NBA players seem to be victims of this.

Hosting and Lodge Etiqutte

* So you are flying in? Always work out with your host in advance when and which airport they'd prefer you to come in. For example, I always prefer John Wayne (SNA) airport because it's close and not as hectic and not 1 hour away like LAX airport.
* Ask in advance before you buy that airplane ticket.
* Never leave things up in the air. For something like an airplane trip, you need to plan weeks ahead.
* Never invite uninvited guests. Always ask the host first.
* Be honest with your host on your budget for food and whatnot, and hosts should be considerate-- some people don't have a lot of cash to spend on anything other than fast food... airplane tickets are expensive!
* If you are planning a visit in which you will stay at one place and then another, it's a good idea to use http://maps.google.com in order to see how far the locations are from each other.
Party Etiqutte

* NEVER NEVER NEVER, just bounce after the rider gives you a ride. Try to stick with the rider.. he or she did a friendly thing driving you-- you should at least hang out for a little bit. But if you do plan on going to listen to different things, ALWAYS make plans for when to meetup, ALWAYS set a meetup, homebase spot (which is where i got the name for the community forum
* Never get too fucked up on alcohol or whatever you are doing that you put the rider or your friends under inconvenience-- unless they know that you are going to.
