Behind The Back (BTB) - Moves that are done while the sticks are behind your back.
Behind The Head (BTH) - Moves that are done while the sticks are behind your head.
Butterfly - Sticks moving in opposite directions (one clockwise and one counterclockwise.) There are many variations of the butterfly.
Catching - Catching a glowstick.
Color Switching - This move is done with sticks of different colors. There must be a different color glowstick in each hand. The sticks are then switched, making the color of the glowsticks change.
Combo - A sequence of moves which flow together into a single pattern. Combos are part of the basis of a freehanders creativity and uniqueness.
Concepts - The idea or fundamental philosophy behind a particular technique, often times attempting to expand upon or add to basic freehand moves.
Figure-8 - A move that makes an eight pattern.
Helicopter - A form of isolation in which the sticks move like the blades of a helicopter.
Heli-Toss - A toss that causes the glowstick to spin like a helicopter blade while in the air. Variations include a vertical heli-toss and a horizontal heli-toss.
Isolations - When the center of rotation has been moved from your hands/wrist to a spot on the sticks, you are isolating. Isolations are a concept that was borrowed from clubswinging. In clubswinging they are known as snakes. With snakes, the center of spin becomes the spinner's elbow and the clubs meld into the forearms. Poi isolations often meld into each other (in freehand, the sticks seem to become one) but they don't need to.
Juggling - A combo made primarily of tosses.
Kicks - A move in which you kick a glowstick to change its trajectory.
Liquids - A way of moving the sticks that gives them the illusion of following a watery path.
Mind Games - Any move in which the sticks look like they're doing something impossible or improbable.
Shadow Tracing - The concept of moving your body around or behind a stationary glowstick. Essentially, the inverse of tracing.
Stalls - Any move that involves landing a tossed stick on an area of your body without catching it in your hand.
Taps - A move in which a stick is bounced off of a part of the body.
Threads - A move in which a stick passes through a hole formed by your arms, legs or another stick.
Tosses - Any move that involves tossing one or more sticks into the air.
Traces - A set of moves that involves moving the sticks in such a way that they outline the contours of your body.
Tutting - A set of moves that involve creating and manipulating right angles with the sticks.
