Updated with newest information 6/27/2008 Alright, here's how it's going to shake out. The workshop is going to run this year, much like any other year. We'll start the workshop, maybe Dave will give a speech, we'll have a brief Q&A session with the panelists, then break the students up into groups of who wants to learn freehanding and stringing. The instructors who are teaching either or will be designated to the students by either a blue or green glownecklace that I'll be providing you. Stringing instructors, bring as much shoelace/whateverstring as you can for your students so they can practice. Sticks will be sold by AX at the workshop but if you want to bring your own sticks to give away to your students you can do that as well. Your responsibility is simple. Show up at the Los Angeles Convention Center on the day of the workshop and be prepared to meet with me and everyone else where I'll give all of you a briefing on how to go about things during the workshop. Remember, Anime Expo is a 4 day convention starting on Thursday July 3rd and lasting until Sunday July 6th. Those of you who have the 4-day passes should to stick around the convention and promote glowsticking and GS.C in as much form as possible. Attend the Anime Expo dance at night, glowstick in public places, hand out business cards/flyers, BE GOOD ACTIVE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE COMMUNITY. Remember, for many of the people you'll meet, this may be the first and only time they ever interact with someone from GS.C or the rave community...make a good impression. Badge pick up is going to work on a case by case scenario since all of you will be arriving at different times on your own schedule. What you will do to get your badge is call my cell phone when you arrive at the LACC, I will then instruct you to meet me at a particular spot and I'll give you your badge.
My cell phone number is (909) 706-2538
The day of our workshop, as a reminder, is Friday July 4th. The official start time is 7:00 PM in workshop room 2. That means I want you all to be at the LACC no later 6:00 pm DO NOT BE LATE. This part is very serious. There's going to be enough craziness going on without me having to worry about who hasn't shown up yet. If you're late, I will hate you intensely for the duration that you're not punctual.
Bryce The programming department at Anime Expo this year went through a total revamp as far as infrastructure goes, but the rest of you don't worry your little heads about that.
So here goes....
The Event: The Art of Glowsticking, a workshop that GS.C runs at Anime Expo each year to teach the general public who wouldn't normally know about us or raves in general about everything glowsticking.
The Place: Anime Expo is going to be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center this year. The specific location of our workshop will be posted here once our event is confirmed.
The Time: Anime Expo is July 3-6 this year. The weekend after EDC. That's a Thursday-Sunday. Our workshop will most likely be scheduled for the evening on July 4th (Friday) or July 5th (Saturday).
The Perks: Instructors get a full weekend pass to attend Anime Expo (valued at $55 right now, $60 in June, and $65 at the door).
The Commitment: If selected as an instructor your life and soul belongs to me the day of the workshop (or at least the hours leading up to it), the rest of the time you can enjoy the convention as you wish, but whatever day the workshop happens to be...you are MINE...just kidding...not really.
The Instructors: This is the part where you let me know of your interest in being an instructor for the workshop. Keep in mind what being an instructor means.
You are at least 18 years of age.
You possess MORE than a cursory understanding of our culture and our stance on battling and crews.
You are willing to TEACH and be patient with people who may never have held a glowstick in their lives. You are free July 4th weekend and can be AT the Los Angeles Convention Center during that time, I apologize for not being able to organize transportation or housing, you guys will have to figure that our yourselves.
You know how to glowstick/string (we usually need more stringing instructors)
If you're going to be at Anime Expo anyways, feel free to include that. If you've already registered for a badge and paid for it...sorry sucks to be you.
Instructors from last year are welcome again this year.
I'm not going to make you guys fill out a lengthy application like I did last year. Just email me at Manganate@gmail.com
Include your full name, the city and state you're from, your cellphone number (or a number I can reach you at), and your nickname, and whether you can teach freehanding or stringing.
We have around 25-30 slots this year, last year I didn't get enough applicants to fill in all the spaces but that may change this year so send your interest to my email quickly.
Finally, and this is the most important part. The deadline for emailing me about being an instructor is going to be April 30th! We're on a tight schedule this year with Anime Expo wanting all the information from us early. I will be sending the full list of instructors to their programming director for registration and processing no later than May 4th after that we're locked in you're locked out (if you didn't send me an email about wanting to be an instructor) Alright guys...let the madness begin.
Bryce

For those of you worried about your actual SKILL with freehanding or stringing, just keep in mind that your talent is not going to cause me to exclude you from teaching.
If you can figure-8 and trace you can teach freehanding, if you can helicopter and catch the glowstick...you can teach intermediate freehanding...that's the level we'll be working at here.
As far as stringing goes, if you can weave and butterfly, you can teach stringing and depending on the level of your students, that may be as far as you get. If you can do more than that, you can teach intermediate stringing.
Kinda get the picture? So if you're concerned about your talent...don't worry about it, attitude is more important than skill.
