I've spoken with the convention head of san-japan and arranged for a Glowsticking.com Panel/Tutorial/Workshop very much like the one held at Anime Expo in california.

Ive already talked to photon and sparrow about helping out with this and im looking for a couple more people to lend a hand and be on the panel

If i remeber correctly that friday the 8th at 6pm the panel will be held in a 1600 sqr foot room

we will have access to a sound system and projectors to play tutorials on

From the schedule thats made up we would Talk about GS.C for awhile, what we stand for, our positions on battling and such, then we would play tutorials over the projectors teaching basics and then on open teaching workshop. Im going to look into getting the free glowsticks to hand out at the panel, if anyone has any suggestions on as to how id love to know.

For any information on the convention go to www.san-japan.org

if your interested contact me, we should be able to get a group rate on the convention badges and hopfully we can split cost on a room.

ill post up the schedule i made for the panel proposal soon, you guys can help me modify it and such

~Ty

I don't understand what glowsticking has to do with Anime or Japanese culture, and I think having a 'panel' at an anime convention is an exploitation of the art that doesn't hold true to its heritage.

This isn't much different than bringing glowsticking into high schools as it caters to mostly a very young crowd, many of which are high school age.

edit: Just read that they also don't allow you to have anything swinging on a string or chain at their dances.... what's the point of this again?

Actually anime conventions are one of the best places to find new glowstickers. Typically they have rave like parties, have TONS of attendants, and lots of people that love art, artists and art admirers as well. This is done at the anime expo that happens the same week of EDC in california. Glowstickers don't just have to be recruited at clubs and parties. The art may have it's heritage roots in that scene, but why limit the field to just those places?

I actually just emailed the con head about 2 hrs ago. Yes stringing is not allowed in the actual dance itself, but hes given us permission to string in our panel room. the stringing during the raves is a liability issue, plus space is an issue, bigger conventions like Akon and Onicon really dont mind

And your assuming that a majority of the people attending a convention would be very young. this isnt always the case. Even so age shouldnt be an issue, heck from what ive heard D-Dyzzle is a younger member and hes making some pretty good progress. Over all this will be something to promote the website and our message. This is completly different from bringing glowsticking into highschool, because we are actually making it a point to send a positive message.

Oh and i dont know if any of yall checked but on youtube someone from Anime Expo who attended the GS.C panel there already posted a progress video and tagged it with glowsticking.com and thanked the members who were there

And thank you photon. Just look at some of the members on here already, there a quite a few anime fans as it is, and here in texas anime holds quite a following. If i can attract at least one new member ill be happy with myself. And not all people at an anime convention are even there for the anime aspect of it, some are costumers, some are gamers, and some just go to have fun. Id would like to see this as reaching out to the crowd

After speaking with a few people I agree it's not quite as bad an idea as I had thought at first, although I still don't understand how it fits in a convention about Anime and Japanese culture... unless you want to point to Anime as a major root of speedcore and gabber.

I really thought the average age of Anime CON attendees was much lower than I had figured but I've been corrected and fairly surprised with what I've been told. That was really my major issue and I guess there's not really much of an issue there, so best of luck with this.

its simple.

anime uses techno and j-pop eurobeat etc. for their intros when they arent using j-pop and j-rock.

one of the big focuses of the cities themselves are the nightclubs and the excessive use of neon lights. and they use EDM like its no ones business.

the assumption that all the attendees are children is a fool's logic and the wonderful misinterpretation seen by most americans today of anime conventions. a majority of it IS highschool ages, but theres an even larger number of people over 21+ looking to enjoy some good anime, dress up, then get shitfaced in the hotel room, and do it all over again for two more days (or three if youre at anime expo)

most people who enjoy anime have a 50/50 interest in wanting to learn how to string/freehand and usually fall into that same catergory of "OMFG I LOVE INVADER ZIM AND BLINKIE LIGHTS AND TECHNO AND KITTEN-SHAPED COOKIES OMFG" that kinda stuff. but theres also those that admire the technicality and difficulty of it, and would want to learn it simply because of the allure of the patterns (again blinky stuff attracts anime nerds and ravers)

not to mention lastly; the Texas scene is a very deep-rooted Field rave culture, so its not uncommon for us to wear what we wore to an anime convention and then wear it to a rave the next night. sorry i can't really sum up the complete connection between the art of glow and the anime culture, but they are both underground, both popular, and are shared interests by many members on this site.

the music itself at A-Kon three years in a row we've had a trance night, and the vibe there is better than you'd feel in most clubs.

Also take a look around man, its not just noobs who are watching anime in THIS culture.
Aden, Phoenixxx, Myself, Sparrow, Decipher, RG, Azzie, Knivez, the list could go on of very long-time members and performers that LOVE anime.

speedcore and gabber rooted from garage and hardcore pushed further by German artists looking for a harder bass, thus reverse bass was born. not born out of some idea that Max-300 or that some anime intro was the root of all speedcore

the only reason you hear it in japanese games cartoons and whatnot is because they really enjoy it, youre more likely to hear HHC than a gabber for an intro anyway. It's a Chan joke to have anime synched with gabber and seizure lighting (since japan loves to do that to us so often, anyone remember the porygon episode of Pokemon? lol)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

for the convention we will need the following

A DVD with a couple of tutorials, meetups and solo videos to have running while we talk about the culture.

we will cover basic topics, any of you are free to talk, but mainly i suppose Sparrow will take care of talking.

1) what is our culture
2) what do we stand for and what are our beliefs (PLUR)
3) remove the taboos and labels of our culture (drugs and whatnot)
4) explain how its an international society (reference glowsticking.com)
5) discuss why we dont allow battling or egos or crews in our culture

those are the basic five we will cover and we will more than likely dive deeper into subjects on the spot.

we will also need at least 200 glowsticks to pass out, of course varying color, but they dont need to be badass glowsticks either. I'd contact extremeglow personally and see what you can work out. glowsticks would NOT be passed out until after we are done talking. a majority of the audience will more than likely leave after we pass out the glowsticks (happened at AE last year) but about half will stay.

we will need a good amount of teachers;
Sparrow
Tyshi
Ph0ton
Dove
Ares (possibly)

we need at least twice that many to be able to handle the amount that will undoubtebly want to be taught.

i will throw together some music for everything as well, and have stuff to hand out aside from glowsticks: mixes, business cards, shoelaces, etc.

need to find a way to get a banner for the table so they cant see us scrambling at tabel height with notes =P

also need to find out (Tyshi this is to you) find out if you can get us passes, i know Manganate finds a way to get all the teachers free passes, so im hoping you can do the same

I will come back and post more ideas and what we will need as the day progresses =D
