Anyone here play Beatmania IIDX?

If you're not familiar, Beatmania IIDX (which I will now just refer to as IIDX) is a music game part of the bemani series by Konami. It's also one of the most popular ones.

IIDX could be referred to as a "DJ simulator", though like most music games of the kind this isn't really THAT true.

There are 7 buttons and a Turntable which correspond to the screen, and the buttons and turntable are pressed in combination to the visuals.

Here are some vids of it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvyogb0Emaw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgX1cXOBJLw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_67NO3FWpD8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDpcH4-SfF4

It's too cool! (inside joke... sorta)

Fun Facts: Beatmania IIDX first came out in 1999, long before the recent rock-themed music game boom.
"IIDX" refers to the type of cabinet used in the arcade. The first machines were called beatmania II because they were very similar to the original beatmania machines, but with 2 added buttons.
It's "two-dee-ecks" people xD.

Does that even slightly simulate being a dj?

Ah, I have a love-hate relationship with IIDX. I love the game but I'm just horrible at it. I have styles 3-10 for the PS2, but it looks like I have some catching up to do with 14 being released soon. There aren't that many arcades here in Los Angeles that have the cabinet for what I know other than Arcade Infinity near my house in Rowland Heights. But then I haven't been to any arcade other than AI for a long time....

Not really, but Konami refers to it that way. It's still a fun game, though (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) .

Wushu Raver: You're luckier than I am, heh. The only machine near me is in another state.
I totally understand the "love-hate" relationship part. IIDX has one of the harder learning curves when it comes to music games. (But you obviously already know that hehe.)

That's...keyboard DDR on crack, basically. I used to play Stepmania on keyboard and still take a stab at FFR when I'm procrastinating, but geeeez that's quite something.

Since the difficulty level on Beatmania IIDX is kinda up there, the version recently brought to the United States has been dumbed down considerably. The Grading system is not comparable to that of the Asian versions in order to make us Americans feel as if we are decent at this game. To obtain the score of what you would have gotten in the Asian version you can input your data onto online scoring scripts.

If anything the game is more like an MPC rather than a DJ Simulator. =P

I dressed up as Xia one year at Sakura Con...I think that was maybe two years ago or something. I've still got the costume (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)
