BALTIMORE — Body-scanning machines that show images of people underneath their clothing are being installed in 10 of the nation's busiest airports in one of the biggest public uses of security devices that reveal intimate body parts.

    Farther Down

The TSA says it protects privacy by blurring passengers' faces and deleting images right after viewing. Yet the images are detailed, clearly showing a person's gender. "You can actually see the sweat on someone's back," Schear said.

Now the question is, since it's creating detailed images of their body, what if a person under 18 enters it? Since it's providing a graphic and clearly nude image of a minor under 18, it's child pornography is it not?

Child pornography by one definition defines it as,"material depicting children in a state of undress..."

So wouldn't it by that definition mean that the TSA is authorizing their screeners to create, disseminate and view child pornography?

What the hell is our country coming to? Since when is it okay to do this???? What about our right to privacy?

    My thoughts exactly.

    Quoted from article:
    QUOTE
Passengers can decline to go through a scanner, but they will face a pat-down.

Schear, the Baltimore security director, said only 4% of passengers decline.

In Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, where scanners have been tested since last year as an alternative to pat-downs, 90% of passengers choose to be scanned, the TSA says.

"Most passengers don't think it's any big deal," Schear said. "They think it's a piece of security they're willing to do."

So maybe they won't give the option to people who are underage? Or leave it up to the legal guardian to decide? I'm very glad to hear it's not mandatory, otherwise it's a true invasion of the most intimate kind of privacy. I know if I had children I definitely wouldn't want some random worker at the airport seeing them naked. I don't think I want to be seen naked by some random person either, I'd opt for the pat-down, I'm used to those and they're not that invasive.

As much as people dont want to be all scanned and everything, I doubt the security workers really want to look at naked people all day, having to look at old people and everything too. Plus pretty sure it would be males checking males, and females on females

They're slow enough as is, I highly doubt they'd be switching inspectors back and forth every few minutes.

Easy Target, your thoughts on this matter concerning children are valid and good ones I think, but thats not even what gets me the most.

Who is giving them permission to do this? What right do they have? What's next? Camera's in bathrooms? I believe whole heartedly that airports have the right to provide themselves with reasonable security measures. It keeps their business going smoothly, and most importantly helps keep us, the passengers, safe. And on that note what about the passengers? How are we convenienced by this? You know, they could just save a lot of money and take us into rooms making every passenger strip down completely but that would be just crude, wrong, and a violation. I dont see how the scanners are any better.

Furthermore, why are they needed? Security measures at airports are more than adequate to my eyes. Airports may just be one of the most secure places around already. With their metal detectors, baggage scanners, ample security people, and more Im sure I have no idea about, you'd think that would do the job just fine. Why this? I see no dire reason this should be implemented. And for this kind of violation of privacy I think there should be a damn good reason. Are things slipping through their already air tight security networks on a regular basis? Doubtful.

People wear clothing for a reason. Maybe the next time I visit an airport I ought to go in my baby suit and save them the trouble. I swear, this country gets more fascist by the minute. Why do I get the feeling I live in the Evil Empire of America, instead of the great country that our flag is supposed to represent. What the hell is happening? And.....what do we do about it?

WOW! I am absolutely disgusted by this. Do we have ANY rights nowadays? I will be flying out of the Las Vegas McCarran Intl Airport for Christmas and I will be one of the 4% of people who decline this scanning if they ask me to do it.
