To be clear:
I've noticed I (and many people like me) sometimes lack "tact". Everyone slips up once and awhile, but I tend to be a repeat offender (and sometimes enjoy it).
What this means, as a definition, is that we state things that are both:
1) already understood and
2) Possess some emotional content that may be a sore or vunerable point to some members of the conversation.
For a fictional example, if you break up with someone, and then follow it up with the statement:
"I really don't like your company as much anymore" this is to be considered a lack of tact, because this is obvious by the nature of the statement and generally is considered to be a sore point to the other participant in the break-up.

Question: Why do people get bothered by a statement of the obvious?
Second of all- how do we remember/organize ourselves to avoid such issues?
