I always thought planned out combos are better >.>
That's what he said.
I usually make short combos then combine them into one. Or I learn/come up with a new concept and work it into a combo. Then I work on good ways to link combos together. Come up with being where I teach myself regardless of whether it exists or not.
But yeah I think of it as being proficient in on-the-fly combos (what we generally call just casually "glowstringing" when you're proficient with wraps) and then working in premade combos. It allows you to dance without being repetitive, i.e. dance at a rave for several minutes without boring people.
Part of the reason is that premade combos feel overused or might not be right for the sort of music you're doing. Now the music thing is rare, but I hate reusing a combo over and over so I eventually scrap the old ones and make new ones.
You could argue that people should work out a lot of premade combos such that there's no repetition... but that would take quite a Brianish effort (IMG:

I don't think things like this HAVE to be planned out. You can, but I prefer to go with the flow.
