Recently I've been practicing with sock poi, and discovered I like something a bit heavier than your standard glow stick. It makes wraps and such a bit harder, but certainly still manageable, and I feel like I can get much more control with more weight and less speed for precision stuff, btb/utl/crossers/etc. However, sock poi aren't glowsticks, and this is glowsticking.com. With that in mind i was wondering if anyone has had any luck adding extra weight to their sticks. I was thinking about ways to pull it off, but short of taping lead weights to the sticks, and messing up the whole glowy part of the glowstick, I'm a bit stuck. I've played around with 15" glowsticks, which are loads of fun and throw off a ton of light as well as having a good weight to them, but they're even worse than the socks for wraps. Anyway, is there a reasonable way to add weight to glowsticks, or should i just get more comfortable with spinning really fast?

I dont know of a way to weight the glowsticks well but i do know that you can use flowtoys with that case thing for glowstickers, which are heavier than glowsticks.

What kind of sticks are you using? I know the ones I buy have a recessed area in the bottom. You could probably put some lead weight in that and then cover it with tape. If you really wanted to do some thing you could melt down the lead (which has a very low melting point) and fill the bottom with lead. You would need to make a mold that was the same shape and size as the glowstick but that isn't too hard to do.

Hmm, lead molds might work, and as long as i used the same brand of sticks i could just swap the weights out. Hmm, actually, on a similar note, does anyone have a reason to believe that shitty dollar store sticks would be significantly lighter than high quality ones? I haven't bought any quality in ages, but is it reasonable to say that a better stick will probbly be heavier?

Why do people keep advocating flowtoys? WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY.
Anyway, just put two glowsticks on your strings and tape them together so they don't separate.
The sticks I get from the dollar store "color brites" are the ones that I also buy online, they're the highest quality industrials available.
Also, learning to do everything with strings will make your sock poi much better.
Right now, I'm using unfilled ledsticks, which are 1/3 the weight (or less) of your average glowstick. The only problems are with manips, so you shouldn't have too much trouble with basic poi and stringing stuff.

If you consider cyalumes to be high quality, those are the lightest sticks ever basically lol. Heavier sticks include Color Brights (can be found at dollar stores) and GL Ultras. The GL ultras are probably the heaviest sticks I've used. QUOTE (FlowRate @ Aug 14 2008, 12:15 PM) Why do people keep advocating flowtoys? WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY. *cough* second that.

WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY. flowtoys are amazing <3 (IMG: http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif) as far as adding weight goes, i'd just tape something to the end or doubleup glowsticks like flowrate said. if you practice with heavier sticks for a while, when you switch back to lighter ones your wraps will be noticeably faster

What makes them so amazing? Hasn't almost everyone who posted "woot I got my flowtoys today" also posted "boo they broke" a month later?
I don't really see any need for adding weight--it's all in developing sensitivity. since I use unfilled ledsticks all the time, normal sticks feel really heavy.
