While preparing for a rave, i decided to give stringing a shot. shoelaces worked as well as someone with zero skill in stringing can make them, and then i had an idea...

i attached keyrings to my Streetlights then to the ID Card holders people at offices attach to their belts which i in turn attached to hair things to put around my wrists, essentially giving me retractable stringing glowsticks.

(pictures here)

a few things i noticed:

the bad
-unless your sticks are heavy, or you're spinning fast, they might retract a little.
-you can't twist them together, as the strings are too thin.

the good
-youll never drop your glowsticks
-it looks cool when they retract.

also, i'm aware using streelights for stringing generally isn't a good idea, but they were all i had. i tested it with regular sticks and economy sticks, which worked too.

so, again, having no stringing ability whatsoever, feedback on this idea would be great from anyone with skill.

Get a yo stick... you can do the same thing with them AND a yo stick is just really cool (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Holy Cow, I was just thinking about this exact thing.
Retracting strings would make hybrid stringing/freehanding *so* much easier. No strings getting in the way of tosses and whatnot.

I think I'll stick to limiting tosses when I'm doing both, and just wrapping the string around my hand a few times. (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I can think of a lower tech way to do this: but you could theoretically do this with just a small clip attached to the shoelace between it and the glowstick. Instead of retracting, you wrap it around the hand that it's in while stringing (looping your hand till it's all the way in), grab, unhook it from the glowstick, hooking it to the string wrapped around your hand instead. This also allows use of shoelaces, and whatnot. The main con is that you have strings wrapped around your hands, which limits your dexterity slightly for catching (and the hook might get in the way for that, too).

That's pretty cool how the string gets shorter if you don't pinch it anymore. It was pretty trippy in cleric's video when he stalled the stick and it climbed back into his hand.

I think the real trick to making something like that practical is to figure out how to use heavier string, or a fat shoelace with a retracting device. Once you have that down you could get really crazy with it. With a strong enough retractor, you could have it retract, like, in the middle of a weave, or after a wrap. That could actually be really really sick, you just loose the ability to do string manipulations, a fair compromise to do crazy mindgame type stuff while stringing though.

You dont lose the ability to do anything really. Just gotta worry about the string snapping.

When you pull the string our wrap it around your finger once (can be done mid spin). Then you can spin it as slow as you want and it wont retract until you unwind it from your finger.

uhmm how about just wrap string around ure fingure and if u wanna make them shorter or bigger u just let the string wrap or unwrap around ure fingure? thats they way we all do it.

like cleric said, that thin ass string snaps, shoelaces dont.

We all know how these dance Circles work...two people start to vibe together and dancing then one steps out or both step out and two other people jump in and they share a VIBE. It isn't really "battling" or "serving" anyone, it is SHARING and RESPECTING and TO VIBE off of others as RAVERS!
