Honestly, I'm quite disappointed in how little attention LED light shows get on this site, being huddled into a forum called "The Others" when really in my area(Inland Empire, Southern California) LED Light shows reign supreme in artistic value, effort, and in entertainment. I've yet to see any really good light shows (online, on video) and it makes me think that people must not devote as much time and practice into the art as my friends and I have... So, tonight I will be filming a "master's roll party" at my place tonight. Basically all the people we know who throw crazy light shows and have great experience with giving light shows are going to indulge in each other's effort. Once I have the video work edited by song/giver and such I'm going to upload all the quality work to this thread to hopefully stir some attention and get people to realize that LED's are not just roll toy's. Personally I find much more artful expression with LED's than freehand glow sticks and glow sticking. And in my area, LED's are WAAAAY more prominent. Is this just me? And I hope some people get to see what I'm talking about here. I'll come back to add the videos and a report on the night within a week or so, til then... anyone else think or notice this?

QUOTE (xerond @ Aug 16 2008, 08:36 AM) Personally I find much more artful expression with LED's than freehand glow sticks and glow sticking. And in my area, LED's are WAAAAY more prominent. This is GLOWSTICKING.com not LEDs.com. This is a community dedicated to the art of glowsticking and OTHER related arts. LED's are another form of art. Now LED's are great. You have a bunch of ppl on here that dance with them i personally appreciate the art. But, again, this is not a LED site. It's a glowsticking site.

now dont get me wrong that is AMAZING, but youre very limited by all of it. your hands and flexibility is your hinderance, you can only use your hands, face, fingers, forearms, etc. but its not your core moving, just your limbs. and unless youve got it completely orchestrated, it still doesnt compare to actually performing with sticks. and i dont mean lightshows with sticks either, anything flashing with consistency is going to trump a solid beam of color (especially if its in a lightshow situation) I mean just performing in general. but anyways, as 'Homie said, its a glowsticking website, not an LED website

we want to make it so people who aren't on any substances can be tripped out too.
a light show (and by lightshow, i mean the type with a single audience with someone standing close), by often bringing the lights a feet or two away.. instead of 8 or 10 feet, makes it way easy to trip someone out.
i consider it a novelty. a fun one, but a novelty.

I feel limited with lights, and in fact I've tried giving lightshows with everything. Photons, strobe fx, I do conjuring, I have LED poi... for me its all about the glowsticks. To me its the variation, the expression of what you can do with it. A lightshow is for entertainment, and the way I personally represent a lightshow trips out the sober people. I don't only just DANCE either, I get into a silly character, and into your face with crazy motions that I learned from other styles of dance and such. I've seen some sweet lightshows, all of them, I'm always completely sober. The ones that always trip me out the most are in fact the ones that are silly, or technical, or just really fun to watch. Someone who dances and has fun, cause you can't impress a sober person by waving LEDs in my face. And this is GLOWSTICKING.com. I made this video of Conjuring a long time ago... I should make a new one, I think I'm a lot better now. But even here... I'm dancing and doing something different. Enjoy. -RG

omg that lightshow vid sick. Those guys are destroyin that kid with light. But I agree the best light shows i've seen is with a glowstick. I think its because everyone has seen a glowstick used a glowstick played with a glowstick. So when you see something amazing with it ur like wtf how did u do that. To see something you used before used in a creative new way. So simple things can even really blow ur mind when a "pro" is handlin the sticks. Its not to difficult to blow up someone with light. In that state the more light the better. But for the sober folks I think glowsticks dominate.

Its pretty well known that the guys in that video Sparrow posted, WongTon and TearDrop, as well as their friend who often does triple tag teams with them, Davidnagooyen, give what are widely considered some of the best glove lightshows.
That being said, their performances are limited and of an entirely different style and genre than glowsticking. I really don't see much purpose in those types of lightshows for people that are sober and there isn't really any dance element to it. I don't see these people performing in front of a group and holding as much attention as someone that dances with glowsticks - in fact, you hardly see people with gloves performing for anyone who isn't on some sort of substance... except in the case where that one guy walks up to you tripped out of his skull, starts waving them in your face and you don't have the heart to tell him you aren't in that same state of mind.... but you get that with glowsticks too!
Maybe in the area of CA where you're from it's different, but it sure isn't the case here and at all the parties I've been to. If you and your friends really can make me think differently about it, I look forward seeing what you can do.
Up to this point, the one guy I've seen performing with LEDs that really did some incredibly unique stuff has already pushed for a development of LEDs on this site and, since then, has pretty much fell off the face of the Earth. If there's a real desire for more LED-love, then rally people together and make it happen. As it is, a few people pop in here from time to time and say exactly what you did... but I have yet to see more than just a few of you at any one time and nobody has put much effort into it. Everyone that's tried to do something progressive with the "Others" forum hasn't found much support for it here. The reason that happened, in my opinion, is we don't have an active member base of LED users already posting here - so in order to make your dreams a reality this site would need to attract more people interested in LEDs. If you could rally support for more LED love, you can make this forum anything you want it to be. Instead of complaining about the situation, get people actively posting here and make it happen. The possibilities with this forum are endless, however its up to YOU to make it what you want it to be.
I'd caution you about the way you presented yourself in your original post here as well. It could be viewed as fairly arrogant to say "Videos of some of the best"... You've set the level of expectation really high here, so I hope you can back it up with something really amazing...
