I'm really really into the whole rave scene. I would really like to learn how to freehand, but the problem is, there's so many tutorials, I don't even know where to start? Can anyone point out like hte most genreal simple ones? And what are the best materials to practice with?
I am clueless lol.

Welcome to the site. Your core basics can be found in the Articles and Tutorials section, there's a link at the top of the page. Traces, stalls, figure 8, tosses, those are pretty much your core basics.

The thing about freehand is you can do soo much, even without tutorials. You don't need to know specific moves, just do what you like. You'll find that most tutorials are just so you can get information and inspiration so you can do your own thing.

My suggestion-

Freehand is really really really free..

So i suggest you start with a foundation that feels natral to you. Something repetitive that looks cool, and is easy to change the dimensions of. (Like the figure 8!!!)

What do you want out of your foundation moves??
-Looks nice (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
-Easy to repeat!
-WORKS FOR YOU AND FEELS NATURAL!

Like others already said, start with the basics to build a foundation. The basics of freehand are really only there as a starting point for you to expand on. The concepts are all supposed to be extremely basic, it's the actual development and expansion of the basic moves that helps to define an individual style and flow and adds an element of skill to your routine.

Tracing
Threading
Figure 8s (regular and helicopter)
Tossing
Taps
Tutting

You could really start with any of them that you wanted. No choice is wrong and there's no set order where you have to learn one before the other. Do what feels right. Do what you enjoy.

The real trick is that, to become extremely good at freehand (or anything), you have to dedicate a lot of time to practicing and really be dedicated to it. There will be many missed catches, many dropped sticks and possibly a few bumps and bruises along the way. You have to stick with it, even though you dropped 15 out of the last 20 tosses. Your back will hurt some days from picking up dropped sticks. You have to endure all of those things and be willing to put in the effort to improve.

im on your boat really, im quite (very) new, ive practiced a helluvalot with figure 8 and traces, still trying to get to grips with that damn helicopter (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) still dont quite have the grasp of it haha
threads seem to happen without you noticing it really, when i first read about them i was liek wtf, but then after watchin myself dance. they were there, primitive, but they were there all the same.

below is my suggestion as to where to begin, as im a fellow begginner. remember its a suggestion, so dont follow it if its not for you, do what you feel comfortable with. (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

start with figure 8, dont move on too fast onto other things, cause you might not have a decent flow etc , but then move on to traces, and threads will come naturally without thinking even if you dont notice (which i didnt lol (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ), if not then get practicing (im still in the midst of working out how to do them while thinking about it).as for that helicopter though, id wait till your confident with the things before, cause its not too easy, and doing it in reverse will be a challenge (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) cant wait till i get it right (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

as for materials, youl need a mirror (preferrably big) glowsticks (dud ones work all good) and some bangin beats to your preference

oh and dont worry about practicing in the dark, only do that once in a while, once you practice enough youl begin to know what your moves look like in the dark

happy freehanding (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

i've been doing freehand for over a month now and i still cant do a helicopter. i focus mainly on tosses but thats cause i got lucky and have good hand eye coordination. no on ebelieved me after my first week of freehanding that i'd only been doing it for a week. i say try some tosses and see if you are good at em. then practice, get the basic traces down like the stomach trace. and try your best not to abuse the figure 8. i still tend to do that and im upset with myself cause i dont know much else im able to do. so i go straight into tosses and stalls. but i suggest learning traces cause they are easy to learn and you can do literally SOOO much with them.
