There's gotta be at least a few people here on gs.c that love the metal like I do. So here's my top 5. 1. Protest The Hero 2. Between The Buried and Me(BTBAM) 3. Chiodos 4. Opeth 5. Misery Signals #'s 1, 2 and 5 I have met personally. Protest the Hero, in my honest opinion, is the greatest metal band of all time. They represent originality in the genre and just raw talent in general. Even if your not a metal fan, I STRONGLY suggest looking these guys up. It may change the way you look at the metal genre. Both of their albums, Kezia and Fortress, are amazing. There isn't a song on either of them that I skip over while listening. Some I play over more than once. Ahhhhhhhh...BRUTAL! Also, if you havn't heard it; "Colors", the most recent album from between the buried and me, is incredible. It spans all genres of music together into one monster of a disc. I don't know how they fit so much talent onto one cd! One of the best albums of all time, and it can't be denied. And Chiodos, well, just check em out. You WILL like them. promise! I hope to hear some imput from a few of you at least, cuz the metal is where it's at, For real!

Chidos is not metal, It's screamo.
Celtic frost. From Thrash to Avant-garde doom stuff, good shit.

I can't say they're my favorite, but some of them that are up there:
1. Darkest Hour 2. As I Lay Dying 3. Droid 4. August Burns Red 5. Devildriver
I would put Devil Wears Prada in there, but they're more in the "hardcore" genre, higher vocal ranges. Not that ABR isn't. Oh well. Good stuff! I always feel like I'm forgetting some band. Behemoth is pretty fucking tight, and Chewyskullz, definitely a hit with Dimmu Borgir. Saw them with Behemoth at New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. Awesome stuff in this thread!

I love August Burns Red! Very cool guys. They're actually one of the first Metal/Hardcore bands I got into. Thrill Seeker is a killer album. I actually met both ABR and As I Lay Dying last year. Got a poster signed by ABR and pictures with both the bands! Christian metal is sooo much better than the more satanic branch of death metal!

QUOTE For the METAL fans (IMG: http://www.chinatraderonline.com/Files/AUTO/Car-Fan/6-INCH-METAL-FAN-WITH-SWITCH-19363133755.jpg) Here is my favorite metal record of all time: (IMG: http://www.metalblade.de/images/cache/67182d83a7db6fd0c831898f8bf47c9f8895af68.385.346.b24675f3748f34daa5d11a029ac1c3acebcae461.JPG) As heard on metalsucks.net and sputnikmusic: " With “Precambrian” The Ocean and made a very, very special piece of art indeed. This really is music as a piece of art, this is not music for fun or music to sell records it is an artistic endeavor or experiment. Like Toby Driver’s various projects they have created something so varied and so ingenious that it transcends music as an industry. Albums are sometimes criticized for attempting to be all things to all people but rather than a criticism this is the crowning achievement of “Precambrian.” They have made an album which combines many, many forms of metal, post rock, emo, jazz, electronica and other I may have missed yet it all works and it all makes sense." You can sample it here and here, but it doesn't really do the entire record any justice. Just hear it all. Here's some more interesting suggestions in no particular order: Behold the arctopus: Skullgrid (IMG: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7ruSy-dM0ow/RwvCOxp51ZI/AAAAAAAAAb8/G2QlWZg9okc/s320/164076.jpg) Super technical\avantgard trio. Between the Buried and Me: Colors (IMG: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bvJjQV8qkxk/SNmusABjJaI/AAAAAAAAAhs/_beFWx-khVE/s320/Between%20the%20buried%20and%20me%20-%20colors.jpg) Listen to the song "White Walls" in it's entirety and if you don't like it, there's something wrong with you Arsonists Get All the Girls - Hits from the Bow (IMG: http://cover6.cduniverse.com/CDUCoverArt/Music/Large/7358122.jpg)

i'm an oldschool thrash lover, so my top 5 would be
1. Megadeth 2. Sabbat 3. Testament 4. Destruction 5. Laaz Rockit
but i do enjoy a lot of death metal, power metal, and stoner metal too.
not gonna lie, most of your tastes' in metal saddens me. i can't remember how many times i used to look down on people for liking bands like those when i was REALLY into the scene a 1-5 years ago. i know i'm being elitist, but dam, it hurts me to see these bands so popular.

They're all really accessable man, It's a shame you don't see any Blind Guardian or even Iced Earth on here, Much more so regarding any grind. Nowadays it's all "core". The only core for me is Grindcore. the rest can take off in a barrel of dicks.

Seriously? Slipknot's not even metal, It's crappy Nu-metal, And don't you dare call them the original metal band, That's reserved for one band alone, Black Sabbath.
