I didn't know if this was the right place in the forum to put this, but I didn't know where else it would go. ><

I came across this while looking at Stepmania stuff on youtube. It's like, the coolest thing ever. I wanna learn how to do that. It looks hard, though, considering that arcade DDR machines are difficult to deal with normally, let alone backwards and sideways and all that jazz.

I'm pretty good myself, like, I can do 10 footers on heavy an' stuff, but my problem is that I lack style. I just knda. . .step on arrows. But after seing this I'm going to try to work a lot harder to try new things.

Do you do DDR freestyle? Or do you just play like I do?

I love when people freestyle in general on machines. But with that video I really wasn't that impressed, not saying it wasn't good or anything. Hell if I could I would attempt this but......sadly..no arcades in the area.

This is really what got me into freestyle

How do you even do that without the game saying you lose? Do you just memorize everything or something?

Hey, awesome thread! Just for clarification the video FEAR posted is of another game called Pump it Up which is currently much more popular for freestyle.

Anyway, commenting on the original post: Most people memorize if they go into a tourny like this. There are some that take quick glances at the screen but most people know what they are doing beforehand.

That vid also brings back memories. Such a classic.

well with pump it up (the one with four diagonal arrows and center piece) its a hell of a lot easier to freestyle. just like ddr's double mode (8panels), pumpitup has a 10 panel mode, and its difficulties are freestyle, and nightmare.

most freestyle difficulty songs under 8 or 9 lvl feel pretty natural, so if u arent embarassed or u love to just dance or goof around, you can pretty much throw in what you want between steps. some steps natural make you want to spin, and rotate your lower body, and some make u jump left and right so in the end, its like you are freestyling. so in the end u can just pretty much "freestyle" without memorizing anything at all.

some people take easier freestyle level songs and memorize the steps, and its not real hard to remember the order as long as u put moves in until the next arrow.

its quite fun (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

and dont bother me is a pretty easy song to just "freestyle" either 5 panel or 10 panel mode.

there used to be a pumpitup pro machine in a bowling alley near me, but due to a glitch (where u can get 20 credits for one quarter (3 quarters=1credit) i guess they caught on and took it out ]=
imo...PIU>DDR!!! haha.

It's too easy to memorize songs through practice and with stepcharts and stepfiles.
Man, I can't wait to get a metal pad again, I still have the majority of TLoM memorized.

A modded PS2 with a Japanese version of Extreme 2, FTW! I think that's the last good DDR mix, but I haven't played Supernova and on yet.
My list of memorized songs isn't that long. I think my first song was Stomp To My Beat, then Dub I Dub with early releases. And a few others, but my favorite freestyle is B2U, MATRIX WALK!

beethoven's virus on pumpitup 10panel on freestyle difficulty is pretty hard @_@ gets you running from side to side all over the effing place, and lots of crossovers if not complete turns.

but the crazy version on normal 5panel is fun =X haha. spins!

Yeah, I know the original video wasn't that great, but I was just posting an example. The video you posted thought, was like, crazy.
As amazing as that video was to watch, I hate that game. A LOT. I maybe played it about 10 times in my whole life and it's really annoying. It just feels. . .weird. I think I'm just too used to DDR. I can't stand to play ITG, either.

whoa really? haha. i think itg is good...even though konami owns it (after taking those original itg dudes to court!)
side note : konami sues everything! even djmax WTFUX!!!!!

i like pumpitup more cuz...i dont get as many crazy cramps/shin burnings. i think its that down arrow that makes legs hurt more..but if u do that heel toe thing it shouldnt even matter since u are barely moving your feet i suppose..

but i think pumpitup's arrows and...center square piece is more comfortable. im able to actually do those crazy speed songs. chimera ftw! but not that one bumblebee song thing...omg jeezus. (no not the sweet little bumble bee song!) xD

Where do you even play at..because I am dying to find a place...Mentor has like nothing....the closet thing to an arcade is chuck e cheeses, or the bowling alley...but I don't even think they have DDR or ITG or even Pump...Mentor fails hard
