I know this topic has been posted several times, but unfortunately the search option does not allow me to look for small words (3 letters, such as "why" and "do" and "you").
I think in prior cases I have seen the "I glowstick for myself" or something along those lines. What does that mean? It is very vague. I am really interested in this answer.
I don't know what I have claimed in the past, but this is why I glowstick. I think it is really pretty and I like making pretty things. I like flowers a lot, I like clouds, I like the sky, I like glowstick light trails a lot. I think they look very cool as well. I used to think they looked really cool more than they looked pretty. So when I first became interested in glowsticks, I thought they were cool, not pretty. Now I think they are more pretty.

Honestly, I know it's cliche, but I glowstick for that feeling I get when all I'm thinking about is the music and the glowsticks. I'm not that great at glowsticking, but who cares? Once I get into that little comfort-zone where I don't care what other people see or think, and I'm completely stoked about every little thing I'M doing it's one of the best feelings in the world. Even if I floor stall I just pick it right back up and keeping going at it. I glowstick because this is also one of the few, in my opinion, untainted art form communities. Every other community you go to, it's a bunch of sell-outs and misdirected people. Just look at b-boying, c-walking, and every other "fad" dance community. B-boying used to be something great but then it went mainstream. C-walking was alright, but then it was ruined by immature people. Along with asking people why they glowstick, you should ask them why they're here, on GS.c. I know I'm here because there are other people who respect glowsticking as an expressive art form and want to preserve that as much as I do. I know I'm here because I don't want to see something like this turn into another 45 seconds on So You Think You Can Dance. There are just way too many reasons to be able to put into one post, so I hope other people are able to bring up certain reasons that have just slipped through my fingers right now.

I would have to agree with Kanoodle. There's no other better feeling in the world when the music is blasting, the orange ultra's you're using are so bright in whatever darkened atmosphere you're in that you can't see past your own hands, and then... you stop thinking. There is nothing but music and glow, and you're standing somewhere in between. Its at this moment you feel completely free. Like someone just hit the PAUSE button on your life and you're stuck in limbo, and for a few moments, all of your problems in life seem to fall away...... .....not to mention, it looks really friggin COOL (IMG: http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) glowy/blinky/shiny/pretty things make me happy hehehe (IMG: http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/silly.gif)

I have very fond and happy memories concerning glowsticks/glowsticking. When I see glowstick trails, or when I glowstick, it reminds me that the past is not all full of bad things that I wish I could forget, it takes me back to happier times and makes me think that I have potential to make the future so much better.

Self expression, put simply.
Any emotion I'm feeling at that point in time, I want to be able to translate through glowsticking.

Honestly, i just do it because:
1) It looks amazing 2) It's a hobby. Rather do glowsticking than sitting at home being bored! I could put my wasted time into developing my glowsticking. 3) The GSC community is awesome 4) It's simply fun.

I love the imagery... My favorite song to dance to is actually a slow song called "Learning to Fly" by the Lyndsay Diaries. I love the ability to portray feelings and emotions by dance and and style. Don't get me wrong...I know the ladies love cool Jake when he dances, but its not always about them (IMG: http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I glowstick for the same reason why I dance. I just think its the most beautiful way to express yourself while using everything that you have. But glowsticking is like training wheels for me. Seeing as I plan on expanding past glowsticking, into hip hop and breakdancing, probably some other forms also. In those forms of dance you manipulate your body whereas with glowsticks you are mainly focusing on manipulating sticks of light. And I think that, that is the most unique thing in the world. Glowsticking has really allowed me to get used to moving with a beat, and has taught me how to train to learn a move. Then there is the culture, that in recent times has really helped me out with my personal problems. Following a set of ideals such as the ones that gs.c offers, has really set me right. Its truly beautiful, not just for the awesome look, or the loss of weight when you are dancing, but for its uniqueness that no one can take away. That is why I glowstick.
Edited for precision, lol

Take it apart. Then watch it fall down. Pick it up piece by piece. Truly appreciate its beauty.

I freehand because I love the expressionism of the art, it is almost limitless. I also do as a sense of relief, since I only focus on the sticks and not worrying about other things. If it wasn't for this site and the community, culture and overall friendship, i couldn't have learned all that i have and be able to share it with others so this community can grow. QUOTE (Flecherd @ Jun 4 2009, 05:59 PM) But glowsticking is like training wheels. Instead of manipulating your body as in many other forms of dance, you manipulate sticks of light. not to be rude against your reasons but, glowsticking is nothing like training wheels. I manipulate the hell out of my body to do some moves. trust me you'll learn that if you keep glowsticking and once you are able to incorporate more dance into your style. I glowstick because it brings me peace.
I glowstick more often when I'm sad, mad, happy, etc., than when I'm just content.
The trails of light around you moving to the music make your world the song itself. Every aspect of your life is that one song.
I'm on GS.c because there are lots of resources to use while progressing. There's a community of people who will support you, as long as you are doing it for the right reasons.
I'm on GS.c because the people on here are trying to protect the culture, promote it, and it makes me feel like I'm a part of something bigger.

Mostly I would have to agree with Blueboy. I sorta got into it during a little drug phase I was in, but when I gave the drugs up I seemed to focus on sticking more. Somewhere in the movements I find this moment where everything is good. It kind of centers me (IMG: http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Oh, and don't get me wrong....it does look pretty damn cool (IMG: http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

i started it because i have always been good at manipulations, and i found it very visually appealing..
i do it now because it is a great way to kill time, is cheap, kinda like dancing, kinda like doing something physical, great way to listen to music.

For the grace of the Art. I like it because when your doing it, nothing else really matter. I can sit there for hours stringing and not get tired of it. And plus i love that feeling when you get a move just right... MMMMmmhh buttery smooth.

(IMG: http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/uploads/av-1.jpg) <-- THIS IS WHY! No but everyone has pretty much said it. For the love of the art, so I can express myself. Also because it is pure win.
