i personally dislike computer dj programs (it doesn't nearly feel the same nor can you do combo techniques), buuuuut if you're just learning and/or don't have the money then it's a good place to start i guess. and virtual dj by far is the best on my opinion.

yea im the same lol.
i hate using VDJ,. i just cant do it. go big or go home. i love having my own set. and its true you cant do nearly as much. i mean sure you can do more with effects. but just mixing technic is so much better with real stuff. you really feel it more and you can get into your mixes more...like i start jumping around when i dj lol.

but i have to disagree with VDJ being the best. Traktor > all in my opinion.
just the over all performance i love it.

i agree. torrents are the best way to get software because they rarely have viruses, you can find almost any program, and the software is almost always pre-cracked (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

i really like adobe audition for organizing. it just makes everything real easy.

theres another program called Fruity Loops. its not that great, but it comes with a couple real nice synths, and it works well for basic loops.

Fruity loops is more a music making program, not actual DJing

Not true. I do massive combo techniques with my Hybrid Setup.

I disagree with you completely. I have used Ableton, Traktor, Torq, and Virtual DJ and by far the most stable program is Virtual Dj and Ableton. I have had various equipment ranging from rackmount cd players and a ghetto 3 channel Berringer mixer to a DJm 800 mixer and CDJ 1000 mk3s. I can do a lot more by utilizing an analogue and a digital setup.

I've played with some of todays brightest and talented House and Trance DJs and continue to do so in New York City and the tri state Area. I have a few remixes under my belt as well so I'm not just talking out of my ass.

I'm coming down on this post because people tend to diss Virtual DJ before they really get accustomed to using it. I'm not saying traktor is not a good program, it is. So is Serato and Ableton. Virtual DJ works well also.

Joe Chitussi or should I say "Italajoe", you are always dissing people for using Digital but you know what? It is matter of preference. I have a Hybrid setup. I use a macbook pro with software, 2 CDJ 1000 Mk3s and a DJM 800 mixer. Using a Hybrid setup takes talent and skill just as spinning with Analogue equipment. A beginner can't get on a digital setup and rock a club like someone who has had experience on it.

This is an excerpt from my broadcast last Sunday which had many viewers from GSC. Full chatroom with 7 Cams.

Tainted Transmission 20 pt2

I'm not doing as much in it because I am hosting a full chatroom of 40-50 people and have to keep them entertained as well as DJ.

This is me spinning in an exclusive Downtown La condo party and I'm Freehanding while spinning. It was during Halloween, the day before Monster Massive.

Another vid of me in a Storm Trooper outfit at Snowshop in NYC which was a Glowsticking.com workshop. I am doing effects on the fly and changing beat grids and loops.

Even my very first gig in NYC was successful

I'm still a beginner and have only been on the decks for less than three years. If you want to see a true expert and a true DJ of the future check out the videos below.

Dj Enferno is rocking two laptops, one running Serato and the other running ableton. He uses an M Audio trigger finger and a keyboard while spinning on Time Coded Vinyl and scratching. He is doing live remixes of songs. Can you do that?

YOU tell me if this doesn't look like DJing although it is on a Digital Setup.

This is him spinning in a club.

So seriously "ItaloJoe", before you diss digital and hybrid Setups, get your facts straight. There are a lot of talented Hybrid/Digital users that are more successful than you, INCLUDING MYSELF.

So cyanide, do not let others discourage you from using the software/equipment you would like to use. It is a matter of preference. Use what you like.

That's my two fucking cents!

I disagree with you! Define your hybrid setup... seems to me like you're going off a bit when one says the "feel" in the category of programs (meaning software) versus combine with hardware or pure hardware in the direct sense. i assume your meaning of hybrid being that.

Mouse clicks and key strokes aren't near the same as pads, pots, sliders, and keys/buttons,etc, etc.

Seriously Straat, what have you done to back up these claims? Are you an expert successful DJ touring the fucking world? Do you play at clubs monthly and have your own following? How many different kinds of equipment have you used?

This Analogue vs Digital argument is getting so old and with more and more talented DJs using digital and Hybrid setups I know the argument will die out eventually.

I started with rackmount cd players and a 3 channel mixer. Learned beat matching, phrasing, eq techniques, etc., then tried using a console mixer with software. I learned a lot using two different mediums to DJ but liked different parts of both. I DID NOT just jump on the digital bandwagon without learning the basics and fundamentals of Djing.

Now I am running 2 CDJ 1000 mk3s and a djm 800 with a macbook pro. I have used and owned a Xone 92 mixer, CDJ 800 mk2s, a Korg Kaoss Pad Kp3 as shown here in a video of my old setup. I used Time coded CDs in the CDJs so I coudl spin off an external hard drive rather than carrying huge books of CDs or vinyls in the case of Turntables.

I've also owned a Torq Xponent, a Hercules Dj Console Mk2 and various other gear within three years.

Before the CDJ 1000 mk3s and the djm 800 I used this

A xone 3D mixer which Deadmau5 used before he switched to the Xone 4D.

As for this comment

"Mouse clicks and key strokes aren't near the same as pads, pots, sliders, and keys/buttons,etc, etc."

I don't only use mouse clicks and key strokes. WTf is that? Don't assume anything. You have never seen or heard me spin live. Unlike you, I have respect for DJs who bring something different to the scene no matter what they spin on.

You know what though, whatever, I'm just tired of the argument of analogue Djs saying it isn't real djing when you use a laptop with software to spin. It takes a different skill set to do so. But it takes skills to DJ in general, no matter you are using.

With Djing/Producing music, I believe you either have it or you don't. Everyone can learn how to DJ but not everyone can be a DJ.

So for all you digital haters out there, I'm gonna keep getting booked at real events, playing with real Djs, and I'm going to keep producing my music. You can all just keep spinning in your mom's basement or in your room. Thanks. This kind of hateful attitude will get you no where.

And if you are actually a successful Dj and not just talking out of your ass then props to you. Keep the scene going along with the rest of us. We do it for the music and no matter what we use makes no difference.

Wow, what an inflated ego, all this animosity... Seriously, you could tone it down a bit. A bit of advice... most accredited and accomplished people in their particular field don't go around boasting on how good they are and how big their following is....PLUR right? Respect is the key word in this acronym.

I apologize for coming off as arrogant but I do not respect people who do not respect me. and both Joe Chitussi and Straat were attacking the characters of Digital and Hybrid Djs.

The reason why I stated examples of experience was merely to show that I have had experience with both types of setups and am not just talking out of my ass.

I for one am doing this for the sheer love of Electronic Music. I spin a lot of different genres. House, Progressive, Trance, Hardstyle, Hard Trance, Drum and Bass, Psy Trance, etc.

Again I apologize for anyone else who read this and thought I was being arrogant. I was merely stating examples of experience. If you ever tune into my show and participate in the chatroom you will see that the vibe I bring is one of togetherness and music. Anyone who's ever tuned in will tell you the kind of person I am and how I treat my viewers as friends.
