> Rules of this Forum

  • if you are going to make a bold statement, provide evidence or at least a logical explaination for them. most topics disscussed here have no right or wrong answer, so give a reason for your opinion.
  • Personal attacks of any kind will not be tolerated.
  • be respectful. acting like a munchkin will get you treated as such.
  • be supportive, although you may view one person's problem as trivial, to them, it may actually be a life or death issue.
  • sometimes, we all need to simply agree to disagree.
  • finally, there are no right or wrong answers, only opinions. so avoid the "you're wrong and are goig to burn in hell" or "well, you are just stupid" retorts when you don't like what someone has to say. no matter how hard you try, you cannot make someone agree with you if they don't see it that way.
  • Avoid intellectual dead-endsTry avoid using phrases like, "it's useless talking to you!" or "you are all one-sided and my opinions can't change you". Instead, follow the ways of socrates and try to INCREASE discussion by asking questions. Be OPEN-MINDED. This is just a forum and you are unlikely you will change anyone elses viewpoints, but you may learn a thing or two. Hypothetically accept viewpoints now and then for the sake of discussion and to fully understand their viewpoints.
  • Try to type on a level that's somewhat formal. Abreviations or slang words are not recommended because people will just not take you seriously.
  • Avoid cursing and slander.
  • DO reference your thoughts with links and outside references for people to peruse. That will encourage a sideways debate.
  • If a debate spurns a new side-debate, make a new thread, and be kind enough to link to the new thread.
  • Be DESCRIPTIVE in your topic descriptions.
  • PROOF-READ! Absolute correctness is not necessary, but people should at least get what you are saying.

So recently I've been trying to enroll in "running start", a program that allows you to gain college credits while still in high school. Before the school district will pay for your schooling, however, you must take the COMPASS test and get a score of at-least 80 on two different sections.

Originally, I had gotten a 93 on reading, a 72 on writing, and a 38 on algebra (I quit taking math classes at 7th grade). I was forced to re-take the writing section. I never studied, never took the practice quizzes NOTHING. I went back, and actually FOCUSED on the questions, looked at all the answers, and read everything CAREFULLY.

I then scored a 94 on the writing section. I now, very happily, will be able to be done with my home schooling AND have an AA in IT by the time I'm 18!!!!!

Thinking back, all I really had to do was focus, pay attention, and actually try my hardest.
Last night, I was able to put that mindset into my glowstringing, and then I was able to learn the reverse 3-beat weave in about 15 minutes. Before, for about a month, everytime I would pick up the strings I would just get tired of hitting myself in the head and arms and throw em down before I could learn anything.

I just thought it would be interesting to throw my little break through into the community and see what every one else thought. (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

In the end? Give it your all, focus, you can achieve anything.

The right mindset is definitely important. I work very well under pressure because it makes me focus and my efficiency goes up like literally 400%.

Hard work is a necessary but insufficient condition for success.

Second, you also need to plan. Without keeping the end in mind and pacing yourself properly, you will likely work hard towards the wrong path or not finish on time.

And generally, I would say that, third, auspicious conditions are needed as well. So, lucky is the last one. (If I study hard for the SATs but it happens that all the words on the exam that day were exactly the ones that I couldn't remember, then I still lose).
