If you look at today's freehanding and videos from say 3-4 years ago, theres a big difference in the dancey-ness of most videos.

for example, if you look at some of dave's old videos, theres popping involved with what he does

does anyone know of any videos or tutorials of dancing that's really well incorporated with glowsticking?
or any dance tutorials that could be used to help add to freehanding?

In my opinion the whole popping style of dance goes entremely well with freehanding. I love watching people who are actually good at popping hit the beats with there body. I have yet to see a freehander that is a extremely good popper that has such a huge variety of moves that its like your watching something new everytime and viceversa with a extremely good popper thats really good at freehanding. Thats not to say that its not possible I just think no one has taken the time and effort into expanding the art to that degree.

For the whole dance tutorails thing I have found youtube to be my best friend when it comes to learning how to dance. I would recommend learning some basic popping moves basic tutting moves and basic waving moves.

My opinion of freehanding right now is that its still in the baby/child stages of development it hasn't been pushed nearly as far as it can be.

i am prolly gonna get in trouble for this but. I think part of freehand is the natural talent to move with the music. you can memorize all the patterns and moves you like but if you cant move with the music its just like a set or a kata. Not everyone has that talent. Most of the really good lock and poppers i know don't want to bother with glowsticks. they've already got a style that suits them. But in theory is sounds awesome

I can agree with you Saiya and also add that since it is about natural body movement if you have knowledge of other dances then you body will naturally dance and incorporate the styles that you already know.

Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, Gliding and Popping in particular go really well with freehanding depending on your style. I would advise getting down basic popping, gliding, and 2 step/2 step hip hop moves. Youtube is great, just search, it might take a sec or too but I'm sure you'll find something you can learn from ( like watching gsc member vids)

Oh, but we are all born gifted! It just may take some people a bit longer than others to unlock it =P

I had help from a friend of mine on really basic free movement, pretty much being loose and always moving your body, she also helped incorporate that into what little freehanding I do know.

She also said: "Even if it looks like something that may not make sense, or look good, you can turn it into something cool if you improvise enough."

I've found that I've been implementing any form of dance that involves a lot of body movement since I tend to thread and trace a lot I find that it complements it well. (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Nothing too specific though.

In my opinion freehanding is just a natural thing... you can learn techniques and tricks all you want but you have to have a dance style to back it up with otherwise you get the same tricks over and over again. Some people can pull an amazing style out of just freehanding but... you have to go with the flow, with the music. Sure, there are moves and things likes tracing and stalls and such. I incorporate a lot of ballet and lyrical movements into my freehanding so that it's almost like i'm just dancing with glowsticks. At the same time, I'm still learning tech work for stalls and traces. Once I get that down, my stringing style will become more lyrical as well, once I get better with stringing.

I just can't wait to get back in the dance studio to get some really cool stuff going.

I dig fusion styles. <3

i dont see a problem in listening to a song and making a cool routine using popping or any dance style for that. it would make for a great video and you could always learn a few things while making this video!? ehh ehh? if i was good at any form of dance other than glowsticking i'd do it. well iJerk, but i tried to put those together.. didnt work, wayyy to diff. also liquid. i wanna see someone use ticking with glowsticking!

a topic that defines my style.
I've always been interested in so many different styles. I just kind of fuse them all together and out "pops" my style.

But then again I could never pick a favorite.

Do everything that you LOVE, and it will SHOW in your style.
