Youtube would be the place. Look up Mr wiggles, Salah, and Freezy to get you started then just surf the tags or related videos.

www.westcoastpoppin.com has a good collection of videos and there is also a forum dedicated to popping, waving, locking, and botting. There are some INCREADIBLE dancers over there. Check 'em out. While your looking up videos, you might check out PopNTod, Poppin' John, Bopn Dre, and Mr. Steen. I'm on the forums over there as "B Rad" And, for the record, popping and locking are two different things. you can put them together, but there is definately a huge difference. This is popping: and this is locking:

OK, first of all is the name. there are two distinct styles of dance here: "popping" and "locking". in truth, there is no such thing as "popping and locking", as the two are distinct and separate styles. Locking is more of a funk style, though, so I'd shelf that for now.
Popping is an awesome style to learn, not very hard once you know what to do, and only limited by your imagination and knowledge of how your body moves. there are some awesome tutorials on Youtube. keep in mind: there are a lot of substyles in popping (such as waving, strobing, dimestopping, ticking, etc.). when you start out, try and just get the basic pop down.

QUOTE (cynicdave @ Jul 1 2009, 03:02 PM) it's awesome, but i disagree with it not being hard to learn. It probably just depends on the person, but I agree, it's pretty hard to learn, at least personally speaking.

If our knowledge of life is just a mere fragment of reality, a reality that is far beyond the boundaries of our mind, then dancing is the pathway to unimaginable locations; the hands of a Dj, the key to their doors; and music, the final destination in this wondrous journey, a destination of length unknown. -lockshot

yeah get into it! popping is probably the style you are looking for as i don't see locking publicised as much as popping is but it is great none the less. What you can do to start off is to learn what all the moves are - not how to do them but what they are. e.g. dimestopping. also, know the difference between all the different sub-styles so you can get a better idea of what you're doing and how you're supposed to do it. I'm pretty sure mrwigglez site has some info on this. http://www.mrwiggles.biz/hip_hop_dance.htmand go crazy on youtube! better yet, go meet up with some of the local poppers?

Man... GSC is awesome! it changes you in many ways. you become more creative, see things differently, respect things more and learn that all art forms are based on expression. thats why i love it :D *thumbs up* PLUR! The feel of belonging.
