I've been trying for a few weeks to get the BTB 3 Beat Weave, and just cannot seem to do it. I'd spend many fruitless hours a day and still can't seem to get it. What is the purpose of doing the weave behind your back? Just style?

it helps build your motor skills in the back. also this helps with doing full body crossers, btb wraps, and gives you a whole other plain to do creative movements and combos. plus it just looks cool

When I bring my arms behind me to start the weave, I can get the right string to my left side, and get one of the beats, but when I go to bring the sticks back to the other side, they collide. I am swinging them the same way in split time, but they keep colliding. Sorry, i'm really bad at describing. If you need me to, I'll try to make a video.

As soon as you get it down, you can start working on wall plane BTB moves, and after that your going to see yourself doing crazy stuff you could never do before =P, GL!

Pffffff BTB is where its at!!!! I love it back there. Forwards BTB weave.. Backwards BTB weave.. BTB Butterfly crossers.. BTB BTL EVERYTHING! haha I love it. There is so much you can do once you get back there. Imagine doing BTB weave 360s and shit... it feels so krunk. I recommend many hours.. days.. weeks with your hand behind your back and lots of stretching. =) You can do it!

What's a BTL?
BTB is as you say, pointless. I only started learning BTB cuz I was bored.
But once you learn it you get addicted. You start wondering what other stuff you can do BTB, and it also effectively doubles the amount of moves you can do. Plus, it looks wayyy more advanced to any new person. So yeah... it may seem pointless but when you start getting better you learn to appreciate it more.
And don't worry about the progress. It took me about a span of 2 weeks to learn BTB moves like weaves and wraps- the whole time I thought it was impossible for me. I practiced it a little each day and got the flexibility down, and showed all my friends when I got it (none of them string). After a while BTB was so easy I could do it with my eyes closed... so keep practicing you'll get there.

Why would it be pointless? A move is a move. Why do any of them?
--------------------
When I describe a move as "aerial" I am talking about what we used to call the move set of poi in glowstringing. Why? Because the word poi is what's used for the art of poi, and is mixed up every freaking day when people are referring to either the move set called poi in glowstringing or are referring to the art itself. If you're glowstringing I call it aerial, if not then I don't care what they're called.

I say pointless because it looks the same.... BTB or in front. Kinda like 5 beat and 3 beat... the only real difference is the body movements, which you can't see in the dark anyway. Of course, it makes a difference for transitions and building on other techniques, which I won't debate.

But almost no one cares what it looks like in the dark unless it's in real life. We always recommend everyone to have a lot of light in their video specifically for the purpose of displaying body and string movement. Also learning different variations of moves just increases your overall skill making it easier to learn whatever more as you move on in stringing.

I love the way BTB stuff looks. I can only do the btb wraps which are pretty easy, and help you learn to get the one arm to the back without needing a lot of flexibility.
