Ok so as you all i know i'm from France and go there every so often but recently similarly to the Melbourne shuffle i had heard about this new dance movement that has been blowin up all over the clubs in France and slowly spreadin throughout Europe, its called Tecktonik (a slight cross between hip hop moves,glowsticking)... some people like it, some people don't, lemme know what you guys think? here's a couple of videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7EqlVqZY1chttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCmELKvdgUo
--------------------
"...Silent play in the shadow of power A spectacle monopolized The cameras eyes on choice disguised Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil? Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil? Yes a spectacle monopolized They hold the reins, stole your eyes All the fistagons the bullets and bombs Who stuff the banks Who staff the party ranks More for Gore or the son of a drug lord None of the above fuck it cut the cord..."

Pass.
I'm probably going to sound like I'm talking out of my ass since I'm not too familiar with dance styles, but honestly I did not see a single glowstick in any of those, so how is it a cross? Imo, glowsticking incorporates the movements with glowsticks. The movements in and of itself do not really constitute glowsticking.
After looking at those two, I see more popping, some locking and a good deal of tutting in it.

The movements in and of itself do not really constitute glowsticking. well honestly i think there are some similiarities traces around the bodie, and when they cross their hands similarly to the figure 8 movements, and stuff like that but personally i didn't say that it was from glowsticking just repeating what people have said about it in documentaries, tv show's and such.... and i think the dance itself is ok, and ok thanks for lettin me know about the other thread guys i had no idea there was another thread (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I more or less just see this as an application of popping and liquid styles, rather than it's own unique style.

I really enjoy watching this dance. I'm trying to learn it myself, but man it drains your energy fast. http://translate.google.com/translate?u=ht...en&ie=UTF-8QUOTE One of the figures has become emblematic of the entire dance. It is to run with the arm movement wrap around the head: advance on hand to the neck near the ear to commit on the neck in the direction of the other ear while the forearm goes over his head - movement seen as a gesture of stylization to apply gel in the hair. honestly to me it doesn't look like its own type of dance, seems like the only thing that changes to make it somewhat unique is the type of music associated with it.
looks very similar to boogaloo, even uprocking somewhat, i wouldn't consider it unique though because there are so many styles that it mimics very closely
was it created as a ploy to bring attention to that area where it was created?
from what i read its concentration isn't only on the dance, i have very mixed feelings about it.
the 2nd video is much better then the first

My opinion from actually seeing this in Europe well over a year ago well before it was even heard of in the US dance scene is that it's a mix of freehand and hardcore dancing moves.
And it takes practice too, believe that.

ah damn you beat me to posting about Tektonic! My friend was telling me about it and when I watched it I said "that isn't new!" That type of dance style has been around for years but the group, otherwise called Tektonic or the New Generation, developed some new moves and put a good spin on the dance style. I think that it's a really great style! It's kind of like popnlock meets para para paradise, hahaha
Anywho, I'll confess, I've been practicing it. I think it's fun ^^
