In stringing, people often speak of their weaker hand cursing them; the hand you write with is dominant, so for most people, it's the left hand/left side that kills. In freehanding, though, I'm able to toss, catch, stall, anything more easily with my left hand. My right hand picks up a bit more slowly, though it's better at heli tosses-- which would seem more intuitive, since I'm right-handed. Now, this might just be because I'm a tennis player, used to tossing with her non-dominant (left) hand, but I figured I'd ask to see if anyone else has a backwards affinity like mine-- or if anyone has a dominant hand in particular, anyway.

I think your tennis experience may very well be the reason you have such a backward affinity, you already use that arm so it's not as much of difference as the rest of us. As for me, yeah, I suffer the left handed epic fail curse (IMG: http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wallbash.gif)

I haven't worked on my tosses too much yet. I HAVE seen that I do certain traces with my right hand more than my left anyway. (I'm right-handed for the most part). I wonder if right hand dominant people tend to do stomach traces counter-clockwise (to the audience).
Tossing from my left to my right hand has been a problem in juggling though (3 ball shower clockwise).

Now that you mention it, I do stomach traces counter-clockwise to the viewer. Upon trying to do it clockwise, I noticed a couple of things. First, your dominant hand always goes over the other, so that automatically dictates the direction of your stomach trace. Doing it in the opposite direction feels a little counter-intuitive, but it works too. I think I'll try reversing my stomach traces more. For me my dominant hand works best for my tosses and traces but my left hand isn't that hard to pick things up.

Seems like what you speak of is normal. For guys most are dominant with the right hand while stringing. Yet when we play, sports like baseball, we catch with the left. Thus, when freehanding, things like tossing and stalls are easier because of earlier development of talent with the left. My left hand is much more dominant with freehand while my right is more dominant with stringing.

it is natural for a person to do more things in their dominant hand / arm.. with freehanding i do smoother and a lot more tosses with my right but trying to balance it out by consciously tossing with my left hand =x
