DwarfmanI noticed when I freehand, I tend to use the fig. 8 when I transition into another form. And I mean I use it all the time for transitions. I don't know if this is bad or if I should try the change this before I get used to it. I am currently trying to use tracing to transition but I still use fig. 8 a lot. Need opionions!

literally, every move in freehanding is a transition so yes, don't limit yourself to the fig 8 as a transition

you dont have to totally ditch the fig. 8, you can just vairy it if you dont feel comfortable without it. i do a lot of fig. 8 between stuff, but ive learned to change it minimally, so it feels like a fig. 8 but its something else - ex. instead of a fig. 8 do a helicopter. i also do a lot of traces instead... which has also been mentioned - and you cant go wrong with traces cause there are so many possibilities.

There's nothing wrong with using the figgy 8, just don't over do it. When you are practicing don't use the figure 8 at all. That will force your mind to come up with new creative ways to transition. It will be hard at first b/c it feels so natural to use the fig. 8, but in time you'll get used to it.

I am attemping to use tosses, but I have a bad left hand toss. My tosses with my left hand almost always shoot the glowstick to my far right when tossing from behind.
Oh, and what does a butterfly trace look like or how are you suppose to do it? Is there a video that someone used it? I don't know if I've seen it already in the videos. Thx for advice everyone, helped a lot!

I know that RG posted a tutorial for the butterfly trace somewhere. If you search you should be able to find it. It's basically a double arm trace. You trace both of your forearms at the same time. Left hand right forearm right hand left forearm at the same time.

people do love to dog the fig8 just because it is an easy move to learn and a lot of people starting out do abuse it - however if you spend time refining it you'll find there is a lot in the fig8 itself
you're doing the transitions in and out of a fig8 , now try to do it with your left hand leading (basically reverse the direction of the fig8) or work on throwing in tosses in and out of your fig8
so many people abandon the fig8 before they really know what it can do - i say stay with the fig8- its months worth of moves and stlyes
and uh... yeah whats a DP?

Yeah... work on tracing, you can transition just about anything into a trace and then back out into a toss or something funky. A great one to get down is the butterfly trace... I find myself using it more and more without even meaning to lol. I'm trying to wean myself off the figure 8 as well so I know how it feels.
Tosses are awesome too. Pick up random stuff around you and start throwing it around, then pick up glow stix... throw them around. Lather rinse repeat.
Hope I helped...
