I am offering by email, IM, and this thread personal freehand mentoring and tutoring. Sometimes I will post your questions here if it's particularly relevant. Your questions may be summarized and posted as articles or may be turned into tutorials. Most of you know who I am, but here is a short summary of what I can offer you: My skill base includes a lot of dance background, especially funk styles like popping, waving, and tutting. I am a dancer period. My main benefit to you is my experience-- I can leverage vast amounts of inspiration and give you tons of moves from other dancers and freehanders. Me and paul were the first ones to incorporate tutting from our tutting background and I want to continue the integrative process. I am extremely practical and will always give you the quickest path to developing your freehand skills. I am more useful the more practiced you are. I am more useful to you if you have a webcam. I am more useful with continuity-- it's much better to come back to me after you have learned something rather than just use a move or two. The freehanders I've glowsticked with before includes everyone you probably know, but the short list in no particular order is Bigshow, felix, yosho, hoppa, paul, rai, spazzman, ginseng, nmestar, james, gio, ravergirl, griever, dragonglow, and vast amounts of other freehanders. I am extremely opinionated, extremely blunt, but nobody in the above list has had a problem with that and I basically will ignore your ego and run over it if you try to blind yourself with your ego. As mentioned, I'm extremely practical, so I call it like how I see it and there will be no hocus pocus anything. I won't be confusing. I won't be general. I will tell you exactly what to do, and explain why. if a concept could be developed further before you should pursue it, I'll tell you. I will respond to IM's usually instantly after 7pm pacific time, but I'm not always available. Emails are good since I can respond anywhere, any time. This thread is good and but will be answered every now and then. Instructions for best use =)Post a glowsticking video shot in the day time that's 1 minute long. Your entire body must be seen. Go slowly for the first 30 or so seconds, and then go quickly for the last 30 seconds. Doesn't matter if the glowstick is bright or not. Post the video on youtube.com with the title "Glowsticking.com Freehand Tutorial Session #1 - [your gsc screename] The tags should be glowsticking tutorial glowsticks rave poi dance pop glowstring freehand glowstringing freehanding
The description should be: This video is part of the free glowsticking mentoring and tutorial sessions by cynicdave. go to this thread to learn more: CODE http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/Freehand-Mentoring-Tutoring-Cynicdave-t16295.html Step 2 I will then know your general capabilities. I will then ask you what you want to work on, what fits your mood... tracing, tossing, etc.. How to contact me:My AIM: Eysan My Email: Davidyoh@gmail.com click here use a descriptive subject title.. i woudl put [GSC] in there... my gmail flags it with a huge red label if you do that. This thread. I prefer those.. pm's are hard to answer within my normal workflow at work.

Thanks for taking the time to do this =].

When I describe a move as "aerial" I am talking about what we used to call the move set of poi in glowstringing. Why? Because the word poi is what's used for the art of poi, and is mixed up every freaking day when people are referring to either the move set called poi in glowstringing or are referring to the art itself. If you're glowstringing I call it aerial, if not then I don't care what they're called.

Thank you for offering the time Dave. Listen guys, if you wanna learn something about Freehand and Dance, learn from the master.
Meeting Dave back in 06, completely brought me to a whole other level of Freehand. He opened my mind to incorporating other dances, such as popping, and also putting my own spin on moves that I currently used. It was Dave's wise words that made me believe that anything is possible with Freehanding. It just takes dedication and practice.
I know many of the Freehand vets would agree, that Dave is the most well put together when it comes to Freehanding. With fluid traces, smooth transitions, and an open mind, he lights up the floor like no other.
Definitely gonna session it up on stickam with you bro.

This is a very excellent video and i'll post it here because it's pretty good. Very good reflexes and controls. Here are my preferences on what I would like you to work on first, starting with the MOST important, to teach you good foundational moves and so you won't keep your bad habits. Style Tip: here is what i would work on first. stabilizing your body, and showing control over your body. especially your feet. Don't move it unless you need to, and make it so that you have to move it when you have to. I'll have a tripod demonstrating what I mean soon as a video response to your video. You shift your feet randomly. Think of how much more powerful it is, if it looks like you really meant to go left and meant to go right, or meant to spin, etc. 2rd Style tip. SLOW down your traces for now. it's too rushed. to practice, as SOON as you catch the glowstick, slow it down. you can't slow down tossing, so i won't talk about that, but as SOON as you catch the glowstick and go into a trace, which is what you should always be doing unless you are doing something special, SLOW it down for now, until it feels natural. VARY your traces. you don't seem to trace the outside of your body from your left and right side to the sides. i would start doing so now. 3rd Style tip: Transitions. Come up with ways of catching a glowstick that does not involve your palm up and always around your waist area. mix it up. catch a glowstick near your foot. or behind your head. and have a trace directly coming out of that. Some tricks you can learn if you feel up to it.. but the above is a lot more important. Some misc tricks you can learn: Taps. You do mostly elbow pit catches. Do elbow tap. To a kick. Stalls. This should get you covered for now. I will make a tutorial on expressive body movement, and I will make a tutorial on how to practice tracing.

hahah this is tight. if i had a camera i would totally be down for some mentoring. i never see any other glowstickers in LA so i really havnt had anyone to learn off of over the last 2 years. ive been wanting to learn threading for awhile and the video tutorials just dont cut it when it comes to weaving.
