I've noticed that people on the boards who fill out their profile information tend to be more active on the boards. If that's because they're more outgoing or not, I don't know. I'm posing these questions to see what the rest of you think. Maybe if there is enough positive responses we could include something in the newbie forums or as an intro PM. I think one of the reasons not everyone uses it (aside from not wanting to) is that they don't know how.

Personally I like it when people fill out their profile information and it can be helpful to see at a glance where someone is located (I guess I'm just tired of asking where are you located, maybe xyz can help you out in person). We have our newbie introduction threads and people fill out their names and locations etc, so why not include it in their profile so other people don't have to go digging for it? (Or am I just being lazy?)

While I agree with all of the above, I originally filled out all of the profile info I chose to out of pure reflex. I've been on a lot of message boards in the past, and it's second nature to share basic info. But I agree that it's very convenient.

Some people do simply either choose to keep to themselves, or aren't active enough to bother.

I would have to agree with everyone else when they say it's the internet, and they don't really put out all of their information. And I as well out of second nature fill out some of the selected things for my profile. I'm not all that active but I have some of the general information filled out. If someone wants to find out more about me then they would have to talk to me giving me a chance to get to know them as well.

The only thing that's uber personal that can be posted is your first and last name for facebook information, which you can edit on your facebook page to be abbreviated or anything you want it to be really.

I do agree that the most active people or the people that plan to be active are the ones that do fill out their contact information and a bit more about themselves, they also get around to posting a picture into "Post a pic of yourself" thread etc.
