So I just started spinning like two weeks ago when I was at MEMF,
which was pretty sick,
but everyones telling me that I should get some sock poi or something
like that to practice with and that will make stringing with sticks a whole lot easier..

Any opinions on this?

Where's a good place to buy sock poi?
...Couldn't I just make some sock poi?

I don't even know, really..
I just need help.

Sock poi are a good idea to pratice some moves just go out and buy some knee high socks and drop some a tennis ball in each onewrap the other end around your hand and there you go!

They has some strech which can help you feel how fast you swing and are good with working on moves that aren't wraps. (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) hope that helped.

sock poi's still good on wraps. but it just won't feel the same once you do wraps with glowsticks. if you dedicate yourself to poi more then get sock poi. if you plan on glowstringing you should practice with them too. cuz if you practice with sock poi more often than sticks, sticks would feel unnatural and like it's not there cuz it's so light compared to poi.

homeofpoi.com for some sock poi online.

a pair of tube socks and 2 tennis balls would do the trick for home made sock poi

Sock poi is the safer way to learning poi. I would recommend it!

I use a pair of tube socks and stuff tennis balls in them. They make a perfect pair of sock poi.

I went out in search of socks for sock poi (it's hard to find the perfect ones) and threw some tennis balls in them. If you want a good set to practice with, you can order all kinds of things on Home of Poi. I ordered a pair of LED sock poi from there, and they're good to practice with b/c the balls are nice and soft so it doesn't hurt as bad as glowsticks when you hit yourself practicing. You can also just order the socks by themselves on there and then throw some tennis balls in them. If you use the link that I posted, I think that it gives you 15% off of your purchase. It helps take care of the shipping.

I think that it's easier to learn the basic moves w/ poi. Once you get the moves down, then switch to glowsticks. It's still going to take some learning w/ the glowsticks b/c of the weight difference, but you won't hit yourself as much b/c you will have the movement down already.

Sock poi is a good way to start learning, although personally I prefer comet-tailed poi.
As everyone is saying, grab some long colourful socks, and a couple of tennis balls, and away you go =]
If you want to buy a pair of any knid of poi, then everyone is right, Home of Poi is the place to go.

Have fun, and Good Luck =]
