Im finding when i practice, basic moves and just getting the feel down, normal light, with dud chem sticks, works fine, but im trying to learn a few mindtricks, but yea, i dont really wanna waste any sticks, and im lacking any LED's right now, anything you guys can suggest to use where i can practice hiding and conjuring the sticks without accually wasting a stick, or 2.

Recently I have been getting into freehanding- you are right, it is nice and all to practice basic stuff in the day with dead sticks, but I have found that I really develop the most when I practice at night with led sticks.
Maybe you could try putting together a makeshift led stick... or crack
some and keep freezing them in between sticking sessions.

...actually, ya know what else would work- go to your local arts and crafts store- they should sell tubes of that rechargable glow stuff that you expose to light for a few mins in order to make it glow.

LEDs are nice if you have the xperince to make them balance let alone make them at all. If you don't want to waste sticks, use green or yellow sticks since they tend to be brightest and freeze them as soon as your done with them. If they start to dim, just run under hot water again. Dead sticks are great for practice in light or even some low-light situations.

get a blacklight...dead sticks light up pretty well, only problem is that anything white in the room will light up as well....so keep it dark xD

dead sticks work well for me...once you've been practicing long enough you'll have a general idea of how your glowsticking will look. while people may suggest LED sticks or what not, i still think dead sticks work the best because you can practice tosses at its real weight, and this is really important in freehand.

here's my post from the mindgames thread:

some easy mindgame placements are: armpit, kneepit, and elbow pit stall holds. it really does take a lot to have a GOOD mindgame...so it may take a long long time.

mindgames are a rather advanced concept though, so i suggest learning some of the other stuff before going in-depth with mindgames.

hope this helps.

i've found that daylight practicing is great for that muscle memory you need while in a circle, doing that move until you can do it with your eyes closed is always a plus. night time practice sessions are usually more conductive for learning new transitions, lines and tricks. there are a few types of sticks that use colored plastic shells, they're really good for the daytime since you can actually see the whole shell. i have a pair of dead red ones that help out a lot.

i pretty much refuse to practice with dead sticks now...i used to not care but it has gotten to the point where it matters a lot.

dead sticks dont prepare you for the real thing when you perform in front of a crowd. they are much harder to see...with live sticks i can see them easily out of the corners of my eyes and pull off insane catches! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/eek.gif) yes this means i practice less but my practice is more efficient! it all matters what your priorites are.
