Can anyone help?

For a horizontal heli toss, you have to learn to pull your hand in toward your chest while raising your arm to get height.

You will put the horizontal spin on the stick by just pulling the stick end toward your chest.

Sorry if that doesn't help much, I haven't slept in a while (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

well this is how i do it...

i usually grab my sticks by the nub...
you lift your hand up, just a little (2-4 inches from where you first started... this will give more height to the toss), and flick your hand towards your chest like krakan said. for more "helicopter" effect, you will have to FLICK it harder... a common mistake is that you may not flick it correctly... and it will go left or right

flickin... is basically snappin your wrist inwards (and the hand will go outwards)

this is almost the same method when thorwing cards ;D

hope that helps

plot out your moves. Plan your tosses. I've always tried to be somewhat improvisational with my tosses... but it's becoming apparent to me how many problems there are with that method. just my $0.02

if you dont have good dexterity like myself then you may want to try doing the "pull" heli instead of the "flicking" one.

what you do is pull the stick in that clockwise motion and release really fast, it will look just like a normal horizontal heli but is MUCH easier to aim (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

I feel the more comfortable I become with my tosses and traces the less I have to think of what Im going to do. I like to improv. as I go and I feel this is a much smoother way of getting things done. As far as Heli Toss I find that if you start with under the arm tosses or over the arm... it could make your heli tosses much easier to perform without and thus making the whole concept of tossing second nature. Im kinda stuck in a rut though. As I now mostly do all tosses UTA and such LOL.

Until you get very good at timing or aiming the toss, following the stick through it's flight will probably be the only way to catch consistently.

Yeah, as Krakan said the best way to learn to catch consistently is to keep your eye on the stick as long as possible. Also, (this might not work for you, but it works for me) I have found that the more rotation I put on my heli toss the easier it is for me to catch every time. It works for me, Maybe it will work for you. Just keep practicing.

that's some really nice helpful advice there. you can also practice tossing them up and just catching them so you can get the hang of that. also targeting your hand to the other is always good to practice as well. that would go for behind the back tosses or under your leg etc. practice tossing the sticks around once you get that down you can at the sametime practice flicking the sticks for heli toss, its all practice.

my heli tosses have always been done by putting my fingers like im snapping them... cept the glowstick is in between... then snap away and it goes flying like no tomorrow... thats how ive always done it... works for me; takes a while to get it accurate and consistent though... makes it a lot easier for me cause i can heli-toss without actually having to toss the stick/move my arm too much... theres also when i just palm the glowstick and rotate my hand while moving my arm up... same thing can be done from a stall position to get a heli from a stall...

it sounds really weird now that i re-read it... ill put out a tutorial or something when i go home this weekend (fat chance... ill be so busy... but just maybe! MAYBE!)

Since we're on the subject of needing help with stalls, I could certainly use some help myself!

What I'm trying to learn is tossing a glowstick up, stalling it on my back, and then spinning around for the catch. Any advise?

it is a timing thing. i learnt it by heli'ing the stick up to the height i wanted it to, and kinda made a mental note of when it got close to the back of my neck.

it wasnt pretty at first, but i eventaully got to catch/stall it on a regular basis.

as for popping it back up for you to spin around and catch it, the easiest way i found was to kinda roll your back, and snap your neck down (chin to chest) and putting it back up into the air. kinda the same way you do an elbow catch.stall..when you 'pop' your arm out, the force launches the stick back in the air...its not as complicated as im sure im making it sound. just trial and error (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) basically thats how i learnt.

Hah!! I would have never thought about using my neck as a means for popping it outward, thanks a ton! It'll be awhile before I getting down, but with the advice you gave me, I have somewhere to start atleast.
