I agree with everyone else on trying both of them and seeing which you prefer. I'm relatively new to the community as well but I've been a free hander for a while, so you can contact me as well if you want any tips. if you're still not sure where exactly to start even with the tutorial videos. for free handing look up figure 8 that's the basic starting move for free handing and gets you going =)

screw all you stringers, freehanding is the best, lol.

No, its really all up to personal taste. If you like to dance and move your body to music go for freehanding. If you like alot of trails and visuals go for stringing. Also, freehand gives you the ability to do lightshows better if thats something that you want to do. I view freehanding as a dance and stringing as a skill. its harder to stay 100% in beat with stringing but it is possible, but you will have to put alot of time into it to do so. Just look into both and learn the basics of each (shouldnt take more than a couple of days) and see which one you like better or do both and be a hybrid.

well if you like faster hand movements and more of a work out i would suggest stringing. but if you want a real challenge and something that will always provide something new to do i would say stringing. i do both which isnt that hard, you just have to get free hand tranditins down. as for starting out i would suggest watching a beginners video on youtube. the moves i started out learning are your basic wraps, 2 beat weave and butterfly. you can find tutorials on this site or on youtube. nice to have you in the gsc!

you just said stringing twice lol which one is freehand?
any yea, starting out for stringing, make some sock poi: get some tube socks, and put a balled up pair of socks (or a tennis ball) in each one, and swing those around, they hurt less and are heavier and go slower so you can actually break down and feel each movement and where they are going

Hello i new to this also and i would say try them both but when stringing start with socks because they hurt less.
Azzie Posted Nov 21 2008, 10:13 PM

if u can dance (popping breaking locking, ect) then freehand. if u enjoy spinning crap just to spin it and love to figure out new ways to spin stuff.. string >_> if neither. choose letter D for none of the above

i personally recomend learning stringing basics first then learn freehand basics. so u can do both.. which looks nice =D

  yo what up ladyglass!!!
well if you like to dance with your body say liquid dance or pop lock or anything like that you should start with free hand because it involves more body dancing than the glowstick
idk how to explain glowstringing even though i prefer it more than freehand(i can dance)
but it doesnt matter which one you choose jus as long as you enjoy doin the art and yourself
both are a great way to express yourself eighter goin crazy and fast or chillin and takin your time jus have fun (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
