Now ive always been wondering why there's more stringers than freehanders. In my opinion i think freehanding is better. So i wanna get an insight of why people choose to do one over the other. Give me your thoughts. IMO i like freehanding better becuz theres no restrictions to how u move your arms and body like in stringing. Stringing has restrictions becuz if u dont do it a certain way you're going to end up hitting yourself haha. What do u think?

Neither is better, They both have limitations and this argument has been gone through ad nausium.
That being said, I string and freehand. I love the two arts and I try to do them as much as I can.

all of us stringers are masochists so the pain thing isn't a problem, and glowstringing is about 1000000x more awesomer

im a stringer, but i say freehanding is 100000x more awesome . im a stringer cause when i started glowsticking, the strings captivate my visuals . and i went for it . and im a lazy mofo, i hate picking up sticks . but for a same level stringer and freehander . i prefer watching freehanding more . cause average stringers out there in the rave scene will think they are the shit when they are just doing basic wraps . but for a freehander to look good . it takes lots of skillz and flow .
freehand > strings
but yet im a stringer who loves to watch dope freehand

I don't think either is better. Like Epsilon said, the pros and cons of freehanding and stringing have been gone over a MILLION and a half times.
But WHY are there more stringers? I think it's because the visual effect is more striking to people who don't know much about glowsticking, and so people start off stringing. They don't understand how it works, and they want to learn how to do it. With freehanding, you can at least see that a person is moving the glowsticks around themselves; with stringing, people go "holy shit, how do you do that circle thing?" Glowstringing can be a LOT faster than freehanding, too, so it looks more intense.
Also, most glowstickers here are guys. I'm going to take a stab & say that guys have an inclination to faster, more intense glowsticking-- hence, stringing. Freehanding is a lot more deliberate, often more lyrical, and is more of a dance. A lot of guys who aren't dancers are fantastic glowstringers.
I started off as a stringer. I've been freehanding more than stringing lately, but I count myself as a hybrid sticker because I want to work both together. Which do I think is better? Depends on who you are and what you want to do. Stringing is an absolutely breathtaking manipulation of the sticks; it takes a certain amount of control and understanding of how you affect the movement of the strings. Freehanding requires an intimate feel for your own movement, and how you can extend and highlight that with glowsticks.

They don't understand how it works, and they want to learn how to do it. That's how I initially started. I thought stringing was a lot "cooler" and had more visual appeal than freehanding until I learned more about it, then I appreciated freehanding a lot more and I'm interested. I don't think there is a better. Both art forms are unique in its own way, like art and dance in general. They're just two different things, you can't really compare.

I'm a stringer, only because I've tried free hand, and I really just suck at it. XD I have no good close range eye hand coordination. And most of my kid life I played with poi and ribbons. >__>

Yeah i do believe both glowstringing and freehanding are good in its own ways. But yet i still think freehanding is bettter imo. I wouldnt just say freehanding is better without knowing what glowstringing is, thats just taking a side with baseless reasons. I like freehanding becuz like it mentioned its more of a dance. Music and dance just go well together. I try to go on par with the music as i freehand and i dont think this can be done in glowstrining can it? slow down to go with the beat or go faster on your own will?

A million times yes. if you ever get to see Aden stringing in real life...that's musicality. And that can DEFINITELY be slowed down or sped up to fit the music. Any stringer can, really. It's all about control. It's true that often stringers don't seem to follow the music, but personally, when I string, the music drives my energy. Even if I'm not following the beat closely, the music inspires. When I freehand, though, I do feel the music more closely. The reason I picked up freehanding was to more fully express songs with greater lyricism and melodic layers-- moreso than things with driving bass lines and simpler melodies, which I prefer stringing to.
