Cyalumes are just a popular brand of glow/light products.
Cyalumes makes 5 minute ultras thats all.
Other brands make ultras as well.

The GL ultras on www.extremeglow.com are pretty good. Especially the greens, aquas, and yellows.

the green gl ultras are a great buy. cheap price and lots of light (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

the blues were downright disapointing tho :\

Yeah, the blues are a real let-down. Skip on the blues, get the Aquas... its a nicer shade of blue anyway.

Sigh, no one actually answered what ultras are.

Ultras aren't a brand, they're 5-minute ultra-intensity glowsticks called ultras for short. Cyalume just happens to sell orange ultras that are REALLY DAMN BRIGHT and so a lot of people like to use those, or their 30-minute high-intensity whites & yellows. As for the rest of the ultras, we often get GL ultras on extremeglow.com.

As for 8-hour sticks, I like Color Brights.

i never actually purchased glowsticks on line but i like to go to the Home Depot or Lowes and i like to buy these really good glowsticks that dont start fading until 12 hours (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
but if im low on cash i go to Party City and buy these cheap sticks called "Super Glow" theyre bright for 30 min then they fade after 4 hours (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I came up with a solution for the cyalume tips a while back, no way im the first person to do this but i haven't seen anyone else post anything like this yet so :/, the hole on them is pretty far up the "flame" part, so what i do is take a leather hole puncher and make a second hole as far down as i can in the thicker stronger part of it, i would post a pic, but im not sure how yet, so far, none of the sticks that i have done this to have broken, no matter how hard i wrap. o, and when i use them, i cut off most of the original hole so it doesn't get in the way.

-GL ultras from Extremeglow (Max Pack)
-some brand i got 100 8 hours of off ebay for 30 bucks
-occasionally omniglows from party stores if needed, but currently in my room i have 150+ sticks total. so i'm good for awhile (IMG:http://www.glowsticking.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

EDIT: as for cyalumes, i recently broke my first pair. they don't seem that much brighter (to me) than a GL orange one). i dunno, i was pretty dissapointed.
