Post your stringing ideas here!

Hey gs.c, the "Stringing Ideas" thread is a thread for all stringers to post up what they've been coming up with lately in the stringing world. Make sure you have a video link for your ideas, preferably a downloadable link. It is better to have a description go along with your video link as well, to explain your ideas (if not explained in the video). It would also be nice if you added the song ID if your video contains music.
Once you upload a video and post your idea in this thread, I will edit the first page and add a slot with your name. Under your name will be the video(s) you made and posted up, along with the description (if there is one) under the video. In the future, the rest of the videos you add will still be put under your slot.

Happy stringin' =].

Spiral Trace Demonstration

I came up with the spiral trace late october of 06. You do a spiral like normal, but curl in both wrists between the strings to let them trace around your wrists. djsparrow has had a similar idea. Check out Jstudd's video for the "pushing" of this move.

Bowtie Orbit Demonstration

I came up with the bowtie orbit thing around early september of 06. You have both sticks bowtied so they they are next to eachother in the very middle of the strings, there are multiple ways to transition into this. Once there, you swing the sticks and wind it up just like a photon orbit. Once wound up there are various things you can do with it.

Random String Manipulation

This is a random string manipulation-type move. Cleric also came up with the move around only one arm also. You catch the stick around your arm, and than wind the stick around your arm. As you do this the string winds around with itself. When you let go of the stick and pull slightly, it spins around the string.

"Butterfly Orbital" - New Transition

I came up with the butterfly orbital mid August of 06 while i was on vacation in New York. You have the strings of both sticks wrap around eachother, and pull apart so they both unwrap simultaneously. This looks very similar to how a true butterfly orbital would look, if possible.

Knee Pin Demonstration

I came up with the first specific knee pin combo in early November of 06. Basically, a knee pin is when you hold the string with your knee while stringing like normal. You are pinning the string in your knee.

Double Duowraps Entrance From Catching

I thought of this move around either late February or early March of 2007, I cannot remember for sure... I know though, that jstudd also thought of this idea previously, sometime in late 2005. Basically this move is doing a spiral style inverted catch. From there you twist your hands around the strings (kinda like mini gumbie?) and than both sticks one more time, and release into a double duowrap. There is also a butterfly variation of this move which is a little bit different. The "mini gumbie" thing is not knew at all. I saw videos of people doing this from as far back as March of 2004. They just never threw it into the double duowrap... and they only did it butterfly style.

New Transition Into Butterfly Orbital: 2 (Much Faster and Cleaner)

This is a new transition I thought of for the "butterfly orbital" move I thought of back in August of 2006. I thought of this like... I think May of 07? I just remember it was not long at all after the San Jose Meetup vid was made... which was May lol. For this move you need to have double looped strings. You put your thumbs in between the double looped strings, and slide the sticks to the middle while switching into an orbital position. Sliding the sticks on it's own is a whole new concept that can be pushed much further. So you throw it butterfly style into the middle-ish and after it has wrapped around the strings enough, you remove your thumbs and pull your strings out like you would for any other butterfly orbital. As soon as you are pulling out, the butterfly orbital will reverse. So this is a forward + reverse move. The great thing about this move is that there is no slow wind up method unlike all the traditional ways of getting into this move. =]

Anti Spin/ Wraps

This is a move inspired from the move "extension wraps" from the nbl video. Rather than just doing extensions on their own, you do an antispin only with one arm. While doing the antispin you do wraps/ traces/ anything else with the other arm. In this video I only display a few wraps. I thought of this idea during really really late August of 2006 right after the Bay Area Summer Compilation 2006. This idea was also thought recently by jstudd, but not put on video.

Handles - String Wrap While Wrapping With One String

This is an idea I thought of the day before this video was put up on youtube (July 11th 2007). Basically all you do is put your string in your armpit like you would for a normal string wrap. You string wrap with the handle, and while it is still string wrapping you toss the other side over to wrap on your bicep (or anywhere else I guess). I never really use handles, this was kinda a one time thing lol.

Butterfly Double Duowrap Through Catching

I don't even know when I thought of this lol. Basically self explanitory if you saw the last video. The entrance takes a bit longer, and is harder in my opinion, mainly just the last toss. When you do this you have to make sure you are throwing the right string behind/in front of the other string, becuase if not they will tangle (which could also transition into a butterfly airwraps (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ).

Mimics

Description included in video.

mirror concept and UTA crosser wraps

Okay so this first one we have ALL thought about and have used, but no one has really re-stated the idea of it. Mirror combos. Just by the name I am sure you get the idea. Whatever you perform in front, you perform in the back, or whatever you perform on the left, you perform on the right.
So what about breaking it all up into four sections? Like whatever you do on the front and the right, you will do behind you on the right and behind you on the left and in front of you on the left? I'm sure we have all had these thoughts, our videos are proof of it. I'm just stating it to the masses (thank you captain obvious).

The other one is just simple pushing areas that you can perform wraps in during crossers, but it can't be your common huggy or OTH crosser, I'm talking those abstract crossers we can do, like UTA crosser (included in the video) BTB/UTL crosser, UTA/UTL crosser, stuff like that. Let's start seeing what we can do in those positions, what kind of wraps we can do. Hell even push for crosser wraps. Of course this sounds stupid, but it's not your arms crossing anymore, because they are already crossed, but now it is your strings that are crossing (catch-link) and now start doing wraps like that, so it would be like a crossover crosser wrap? (this is what i was thinking when I was trying out the straightjacket crosser wrap) Speaking of which I will film tonight after work, I will include the straightjacket fountain, or at least what i can do of it; but thats not until later tonight.

Spiral Trace Modifications and More Ideas

Well here's some combos I've done with spirals with a little bowtie thing at the end. I've already modfied some of the spiral stuff though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) .

More Spiral Stuff

Shows more of what you can do before completely exiting a spiral. First is double bicep wrap to double wrist wrap. Instead of doing double you can wrap on one side only as well for a complex wrap combo. The next part is an incorporation of it into a string manip. After that is another catch combo from a spiral.

Mini Thru Wraps

I showed this already in my “shrinking concepts” thread but I decided to show it again here. Normally with long strings or in rope darting, people thru wrap with their neck bringing the string from in front to behind them. In this case, I thru wrap on my wrist bringing the string from one side of my arm to the other.

Bowtie Object Manipulation with Tutt routine afterwards

This shows how I get into a bowtie and then using object manipulation to mess with it into the orbit thing. After that is a tutt routine I decided to show (though sloppy) because I haven’t seen much tutting in stringing vids lately.

Wrap/ Bounce/ Stall thingy

This is a type of wrap that I thought of. The stick is supposed to go straight out in a line though and come back and wrap again but sometimes I do it sloppily and the stick doesn’t quite go out in a line.

Freehand Concepts in Stringing

Far from a new idea but what I’m trying to get at is to influence people to think more about mixing freehand with stringing rather just the transitions. I would list the freehand concepts I showed in here but the only one I know that has a name is threading.

Random Ideas

This video is what it states, so many random ideas in it, there's text in it so ill leave it at that. Overall, it covers i believe ideas applicable to wraps, traces, orbitals, airwraps, and crosser stuff.

Orbit Buzzsaw

I guess i've always messed around with orbits and have been fascinated by them. Most people orbit and then go out. I orbit and then let them tangle, which is proceeded I guess by spinning both strings forward and it sort of buzzsaws.

Wraps and Traces

I did this a while back, I'm sure someones done it before, but I made a video for it to see if it had a name. I guess the best way to describe it is that you wrap on both arms and then you trace out. Hence, I guess its called a dual wrap trace.

Music ID's:

Random Ideas = Armin van Buuren - Control Freak (Sander Van Doon Remix)
Orbit Buzzsaw = Angel One - Hold Me Tonight
Wraps and Traces = Unknown (Got it off photons site.)

Ripknot

I call it a ripknot for obvious reasons. It can be an extremely useful way to transition into and out of one handed moves and also ropedart moves. It's also just a trippy little manipulation in itself.

Shame on you Brian, sharing all your secrets!!!

The bowtie orbit is super sexy although it looks much better with chems, EVERYTHING looks better with chems because all LED's suck.
Spiral trace looked kinda......sloppy to me. I get it and all, I just don't think it's very visually appealing.

I stole the chargup butterfly orbit move from Brian for my lightshows, its really does look sick in real life. I wish there was some super easy way to get into and out of it without ruining the flow.

i think sparrow showed some of that bowtie orbit stuff b4 but you had some some other fresh ideas in there as well. i really liked the tutting idea into orbit thing. came up with an idea of what i'd do with it. maybe i'll post a vid.

the spiral trace looks cool but seems hard to make smooth. but thanks to you i came up with a wrap combo and a catch combo trying to do this move XD. maybe i'll post a video of that as well. i've come up with a few spiral combos as well that involves catching the stick before unraveling.
