Mine was Laces. He was the one that got me into it...... Sparrow was the one that made me want to be better then the average... They both have a big influence on my style. and they are both some of my best friends.
But what about yall. What got yall into the scene???
Sparrow was the one that made me want to be better then the average...
SAME! sparrow has always been inspirational to me becuase i watched all of his youtube tuts / videos from back before they where removed and he influenced a lot of my style ( all without ever meeting him face to face) even to the point where i still have some of his vids like the after life dallas one and watch it now and again for inspiration.
other stringers who influenced me are:
xodiac: aka knives: his 1 hand tutorial helped me a lot, and i remember watching him string and do crossers with turns / spins and his toss to 1 hand transition inspired me a lot and his wall plane arm / knee combos awhere again verry inspiring to me, as well as the clip from his 2008 recap video where he uses rainbow walls and does a spiral and a toss with it
cleric: fat gypse video made me fucking rofl and i still remember how your crosser tut video caused a flame war in comments, but your string manip tutorial really helped me and so did watching you string i remember seeing him do an uta btb crosser with rainbow wall and thinking fuck i really wanna do that some day ( and by that i mean cleric tee hee) his tuts are the ones taht got me into string maips
melvenorc 12: nuf said naw jks jks for a while he was a really big inspiration and because of him i became super wrap obsessed / based as you cna see in my random practice vid. but when i first saw him my jaw droped cuz of his speed and the cleanness of his wraps and then he started coming out with all this crazy shit like crazy manips and 3 stringed 1 hand craziness all rather inspiring in its own way ( helping me develop my own strings manips and making me want to push my own 1 hand)
atrocities exhibit from t h e ladies of the night collab cuz honestly id never seen a girl string before then and atrocities' btb side plane wraps inspired me to want to learn them
yes i know this is more then one however i feel these people have all influenced me in very important ways which is why i listed htem all in no order otehr then the order i recalled them in
there have been more stringers who have inspired me but these are the ones that have inspired me the most ill list the other ones in my "inspired by old school solo vid" if i ever get around to filmin
For surely Wes and Wil, I don't think I can find their videos online, but for surely them when I first started out. Oh and most definitely stinkowics, mel, sparrow, ryan, D86, syphon, and freake. :D Then last year I saw Xodiac's video, it had so much energy and style, it just drew me back in.

Old story has it that, as we go through life we really don’t change, we just become more of the same. You look around you as the years go by and it seems a very valid premise. People don’t change. As a matter of fact, most of us resist change very strongly. Yet change is a sure thing, the only variable is rate; slow we read as evolution, and fast as revolution. ಠ_ಠ (´・ω・)つ(・(・ (。◕‿◕。) The Sandbawks: Wasting time since ioh nein! |||(°ℇ °)||| Most recent vidya: Concentration Demo 092010
first, Furinax. enough said. watching him got me started with it all.
then the EC GSC family. 2008, NJ GSC in its prime got me stuck in GSC for good: cliffjumping with Syphon & Knivez, and FreakDeke is still my partner in trance crime. but that was a damn good year, guys.
Cleric-- no words for him, just alcohol. if you even see him stringing anymore. Aden got me to freeze up less.
on the West Coast, got blown out of the water by MELLYYYYYYyyyyyy lolol we love you Brian, Global J, Guinto, these kids got me interested again after falling out of interest and levitating shit all the time.
oh, and KaelGotRice. he's some crazy poi hippie or other.

KaelGotRice, Myron, BlueCat, Krakan, Wes, oldmanNYC, Yogi, Joe, Buddha, pretty much anyone who was around and making videos in 2004.
Add KO to that list and you've got mine as well.
Wes, KO and Kael are the three that really influenced me and gave me the inspiration to push myself. I blame KO's crazy BTB combos for getting me into Glowstringing in the first place (The same way that I blame Spazzman's 3.03.06 video for freehanding.)

itchel,freeflow504,wes,b rad, cleric,melvinorc12, sparrow, all awsom spinners I learn from

Hi im Gods jester bless with skills for his amusement and friends yours truly darula poi, glowsticking, freehand artist live life as if there is no tomorrow but learn as if you will live forever.
melvenorc12: for showing me just how technical stringing can get. Cleric: awesome manipulations and Demo: out of all the stringers ive seen, my style is probably most like his.
first glowsticking video i saw. Syphon's 1st Haunted Collab video. Blew my freakin mind all over my friends room. after i watched more of his videos i HADDDD to glowstring haha. ALOT of people have inspired me over my year of glowsticking, homies and Glowstring MASTERS alike. but yeah, Syphonkiller for sure inspired me and my stringinn' the mostt.
--------------------
x "Those who control others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still."
Wes: taught me to stop repeating moves for emphasis of "wow factor" and view glowsticking as an art and a dance, essentially changing who i am as a person as well =3
Wil: Showed me the world of crossers and crosser-wraps, plus great taste in music
Scooch: his old video is what i learned a huggy crosser from
Rev: Taught me everything i know about inversions and advanced beats (4bt TTN)
Jstudd: Pushed bowtie concepts with me, and created his own beautiful style in the process
KO: His style period was something great to watch, and helped push hybrid performing
Kael: taught me the basics of flowers and antispin flowers, and from there all poi concepts were simple =D
C-Money: Helped usher in onehand concepts with me, and makes a sick pair of LEDs
Cleric: pushed manipulation concepts when there was none, i learned how to do tracers/chasers from him too, and has always been there when i need someone to talk to
Aden: One of the first performers i watched and talked to from NYC and has been like a brother to me ever since; plus his summoning concepts are ridiculous
Skooboy: one of the most laid back people i know, and seems to have an endless amount of manipulations that flow with all of his wrap combos like butter on a biscuit
melvenorc12: BEAST!! seriously, if it weren't for you, we wouldn't have a hefty amount (if not most) of the shotgun concepts we have now
greens2dust: my Dub-partner in crime, plus him and Brian have pushed three-stringing farther than it ever should have gone =P
syphonkiller: Patrick every clip i see of you nowadays always leaves me itching to practice what i see you do and expand on it, and that's something that i rarely do anymore =(
Shadow: alright i apologize for mentioning a battler, but back when the whole TT thing was going on, his style was the only one that i found visually appealing to watch, everyone else was the same stuff in different bodies
Elicit: Taught me practically everything i know with onehanded concepts
Whiteman: Hunter, you are not even at your two year mark yet and you're performing in quality is where i was at after like five years; i swear you "Syphon-Orc" generation performers are picking things up so quick its scary
Ares: James, wherever you are, i know you're probably still stringing, hahaha We learned everything together, and i'm sure we will get to session again soon
Guyver: switched me from athletic laces to dress shoe laces, and i will never go back
Ph0ton: his concepts on 45 degree tutting and tutting out objects opened up doors for me
Griever: seriously sick concepts; i've only seen you a few times, but everytime i see you perform i just wanna watch it over and over and over again LMAO
Spazzman: your back-of-the-hand stalls blew me away with your waterfall effect that i saw at pre-EDC; you're one of a handful of performers that leave me eager to become a freehander
Decipher: Danny, you did so much for me my first outing to california, and you've left a mark in my memory because of your kind generosity and total embodiment of a PLUR-minded individual =D
Nmestar:Jeff you're one of the first people i met in cali, and one of the coolest people at that; your freehanding always leaves me jealous of having little to no hand-eye coordination LOL
Ravergirl: Remember your first tutorials where it was really bad lighting and green sticks? i think you used "Sylver - Turn the tide"? yeah those taught me the basics of stringing XD
Ginseng: Taught me how to isolate glowsticks when freehanding, and then taught me how to isolate ANYTHING
Icy: First person i met IRL when i went to NYC, and took time out of his life to show us the ins and outs of the Big Apple; and then we broke a table at Candyball XD
Dave: his practice videos taught me most of what i can do with freehanding
Yosho: without ILR there would be no GSC, plus it was dope to meet him at pre-EDC '08
Dove: Love of my life, and can still do tut routines that leave me completely flabbergasted (will try to catch it on film sometime) XD ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the list for me goes on and on, most of the people i meet period influence me in some way, but these are the ones that influenced my performing the most (that i could remember) =D
