Rules of this Forum

  • if you are going to make a bold statement, provide evidence or at least a logical explaination for them. most topics disscussed here have no right or wrong answer, so give a reason for your opinion.
  • Personal attacks of any kind will not be tolerated.
  • be respectful. acting like a munchkin will get you treated as such.
  • be supportive, although you may view one person's problem as trivial, to them, it may actually be a life or death issue.
  • sometimes, we all need to simply agree to disagree.
  • finally, there are no right or wrong answers, only opinions. so avoid the "you're wrong and are goig to burn in hell" or "well, you are just stupid" retorts when you don't like what someone has to say. no matter how hard you try, you cannot make someone agree with you if they don't see it that way.
  • Avoid intellectual dead-endsTry avoid using phrases like, "it's useless talking to you!" or "you are all one-sided and my opinions can't change you". Instead, follow the ways of socrates and try to INCREASE discussion by asking questions. Be OPEN-MINDED. This is just a forum and you are unlikely you will change anyone elses viewpoints, but you may learn a thing or two. Hypothetically accept viewpoints now and then for the sake of discussion and to fully understand their viewpoints.
  • Try to type on a level that's somewhat formal. Abreviations or slang words are not recommended because people will just not take you seriously.
  • Avoid cursing and slander.
  • DO reference your thoughts with links and outside references for people to peruse. That will encourage a sideways debate.
  • If a debate spurns a new side-debate, make a new thread, and be kind enough to link to the new thread.
  • Be DESCRIPTIVE in your topic descriptions.
  • PROOF-READ! Absolute correctness is not necessary, but people should at least get what you are saying.

I think it is healthy to remind ourselves once in a while why we are on GS.C.

As I was surfing the internet recently, I discovered a number of internet communities that are hobby based, and have some of the worst fucking vibes I have ever come across! Shouldn't their combined passion for an art or hobby help bond them rather than let hate accumulate?

Please use this thread to discuss other websites or internet forums, (you do not need to mention their name) and what makes the vibe a complete failure.

Well I know a certain shuffling site. Really bad vibe IMO. I give them credit that they try to protect their scene from wannabe's and TB's but at some point there needs a line to be drawn. Some veteran members yell at newbies for asking simple questions. And there is just a bunch of flame wars left and right of the stupidest things too. There is a lack of respect there and that's all I have to say about that.

www.stringepeople.net will make you lose brain cells.

I heard that kanditrade.com was pretty terrible too.

Most hobby oriented sites I've taken the time to become involved in have been pretty chill places, but theres always a few stinkers out there to watch out for.

Bay Raves is pretty harsh. 4chan is a given. I've been on an auto detailing site where most people are mature adults, but there are still flame wars over the silliest things sometimes. I've seen hardcore elitism on certain video-game forums, where people spend more time trying to correct each others' grammar than they do discussing the games or where they automatically discount the opinion of anyone who doesn't have at least 2000 posts, level 150, and a huge in-game social network.

The internet is serious business wink.gif

It really would be interesting to do research into how these attitudes become the norm on certain websites. (internet anthropology?) Probably has to do with founding members and mods (not usually admins) on the forums.

I wouldnt mind seeing 4chan shut down for good. I like some of the memes theyve created like lolcats, just hate their attitude towards people.

Not always I've met a /b/tard before and he was a total ass.

It wouldn't matter if they closed down f4ilchan or not. If they did there would be a /b/ migration to other chan sites like 7chan 420chan etc. etc. etc. there is no possible way you can get rid of /b/tards because even if you delete /b/ they will destroy other boards. worst thing to come to the internet since sliced bread.

mymmogames.net if anyone's ever played any of their mmorpgs.

You can't even have any sort of serious discussion without someone saying something illogical, irrelevant, or just damn stupid.

But, I guess that's what happens when you give thousands of immature people the power of the intarwebz.
